    Default Sportsmens Club Galt

I was disappointed to learn recently that the executive of the Sportsmens Club of Galt, a club I’ve belonged to for many years, has switched insurance providers from OFAH to CCFR.

I am a member of CCFR but, as an Ontario-focused organization, OFAH better serves the broader spectrum of outdoor interests in our province. I also prefer Ontario Out of Doors compared to the infrequent and often strident CCFR publication.

OFAH membership and insurance in my opinion carries more weight convincing landowners to allow hunting access. The landowners I know who permit hunting on their properties make an OFAH membership card a requirement and are unlikely to hold a "firearms rights" organization in similar regard.

I’ve renewed my OFAH membership as an individual and should other members of the Sportsmens Club of Galt want to do the same your club-associated membership expires in mid-June and you can join OFAH directly by following this link.

I see it the other way around. I find that the CCFR has more teeth and carries more clout on current and pressing hunting & firearms issues than OFAH. In my 15+ years of hunting I have never been asked for insurance by a landowner or felt that having OFAH insurance was ever a factor in me getting permission to hunt on their property.

My gun clubs - HRRC uses CCFR, and I believe the HGC also uses CCFR and I think this is a sign of the times. Many gun clubs are aligning themselves with like minded companies that have their best interest at heart and that are lobbying government for real change. OFAH, in my personal opinion, is trying to hard to be too many things to too many people - trappers, fishermen, bow hunters, gun hunters, target shooters. In doing so I feel they are spreading themselves too thin and do not take a strong stance on certain issues for fear of offending parts of their readership.

We agree on firearms issues. Not on hunting issues. CCFR is nowhere to be found on them which is surprising at Galt because there are active fishing and archery sections which are not part of the CCFR's purview.

In any event it's a club executive decision and I posted this to make any Galt members aware of how to maintain their OFAH membership should they so choose.
