Tongue and Groove Tree Felling Technique
Well, that's different but precise. I would not have the patience to do all does cuts.

At the most its a wasteful practice. In reality it's a useless idea and the kid should learn how to cut a proper notch for starters followed by not table topping his stump with such a low back cut. If that tree was to brush another on the way down there's a good chance it is coming straight back after you. Chalk it up to novelty.

How is it one careless cigarette can cause a forest fire, but it takes a whole box of matches to light a campfire?

Agree with oaknut on this one. As far as being precise - it's only as precise as the tongue and grove is cut. Conventional notching is only as accurate as the hinge is cut.
It looks like a huge waste of time and a lot of potential for jamming a saw. Learn how to cut a notch properly and use wedges if the tree doesn't fall. Most tree falling mishaps seem to happen when the guy cuts completely through before the tree starts to fall - which lets it freefall in any direction, not with the hinge.

Kinda neat, not sure of the purpose but I will assume that it was just to show how precise he could be.
