It’s unfortunate that Republicans are slamming green energy as a major cause of their issues this week. From what I’ve read, their grid just wasn’t built for this kind of weather and demand, which is to be expected.
Rex Murphy’s article leads one to believe that 42% of Texas electricity is normally generated by wind power which I find very difficult to believe. If their grid is outdated and gets wiped out by a solar storm are they going to blame that on green energy too ??
I’m in the fence about global warming, but one thing is clear - they’ve always talked about climate change and shifting weather patterns accompanying a warming trend. One bad week of cold weather should not negate these theories, in the same way that one hot spell doesn’t prove them right.
The Texas grid is not connected to any other grid (to feed or be back fed). It is completely dedicated to Texas and Texas alone. Between that and their Governor that took his family to vacation in Mexico I am assuming some heads will roll.

Or does he?
Interestly, the first 1:10 of this video from a US general implies otherwise.

It's kind of surreal watching my cousins post. Wish I could copy the images. Of empty grocery stores, wide scale and I do mean wide scale power outage map.
Texas update. On the morning of the 5th day the power was back on. Who knows for how long. More pipes bursting. Still below freezing. To underline how real things are. Here’s the power outage map (yup we’re in the red zones on the coast) and the local grocery store yesterday. What food? Even with the power back the supply chains are empty already. We haven’t seen any real news reports in days. Crazy!
I think back to Rex Murphys article. The Ice storm years ago, or even our own over Christmas not many years ago, when many were out of power for 3-5 days.
Couple that, with gas/lng....
Green is fine, and we should do what we can, but these events really show the folly of madly diving into it. Sadly, I really don't expect it to make one iota of a difference. Not until whether Line 5 or other, people feel some pain and hardship themselves

Jben, how did green energy cause this ?

Where or when have I ever said. “Caused”....
You yourself, have talked about the fact fossil is here for a long time. Mentioned Line 5. Last winter Quebec had a mini scare because Propane ran short. Would you argue the rush to be green, has worked out well for Ontario?
Theres “diving” into X. And doing it intelligently. As it pertains to this. Who wants pipelines shut down, no more built etc.

Do you know why we can fly a helicopter on Mars, but can't turn on a light in Texas? ...Because scientists are in charge of Mars , and Republicans are in charge of Texas.

And liberals drink water of boxy things, think budgets balance themselves, don't have the common sense to be able to acquire vaccines. Arguably, the single most important thing in the world today. . Highly educated liberals, loved Dalton McGoofey, a lawyer who couldn't tie his shoelaces and ran Ontario into the ground. In fact, many highly educated Liberals probably aren't even smart enough to know that when there's wide power outages. Their "smart phones" and debit cards won't work.
Are you done trolling yet.
