More talk today about how to keep it this way . To keep distance and to keep from spreading germs and viruses in the future.

Personally we don't need this to be the new normal it's not good.

Viruses will always continue its part of life and if the people responsible let us down then we should reconsider the WHO team .

Again Trump dumped them. Should we consider this ? They have a responsibly to do their job if they can't do it why do we keep funding them . Why did it take over a year to investigate?

They literally just did a pandemic awareness program of this same virus but did nothing to stop the spread.

You are correct, its not good! Yes its nice not having a cold 3 times a year but what are we missing out on? Immunity, we are not building up resistance to the bugs out in the world. Next question, what happened to the natives when settlers first arrived in the America's? The common bugs we deal with annually kicked the crap out of them because they lacked Immunity.

Worried about Wuhan? Give it 3 years and you will have to be extremely fearful of the common cold!

How is it one careless cigarette can cause a forest fire, but it takes a whole box of matches to light a campfire?

No surprise and CSIS confirms the Chinese spying and meddling.
    Our government has been compromised.

"The head of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service warns that China is undermining Canada through its efforts to steal valuable technology and silence critics of Beijing’s policies."

"In a speech Tuesday sponsored by the Centre for International Governance Innovation, CSIS director David Vigneault said all sectors of Canadian society must work together to fend off these threats."

“To be clear, the threat does not come from the Chinese people, but rather from the government of China that is pursuing a strategy for geopolitical advantage on all fronts — economic, technological, political and military,” he said."

"Vigneault bluntly stated that Beijing is using “all elements of state power to carry out activities that are a direct threat to our national security and sovereignty.”

"Vigneault said ill-intentioned countries will aim to “take advantage” of Canada as it works to get back on its economic feet once the COVID-19 pandemic subsides."

"Among the sectors of Canada’s economy most vulnerable to state-sponsored cyberespionage are biopharmaceuticals and health, artificial intelligence, quantum computing and aerospace, he said."

“Collectively, it jeopardizes Canada’s knowledge-based economy. When our most innovative technology and know-how is lost, it is our country’s future that is being stolen.”

"Federal officials openly say that China has the capacity to conduct foreign interference in Canada by applying pressure and influence in a clandestine and deceptive way to pursue its strategic objectives."

    .......and more.

"The head of CSIS warned on Tuesday that China remains a threat to Canada, that China conducts industrial espionage and intimidates critics inside Canada."

"David Vigneault said during a speech, that the Chinese government uses “all elements of state power, to carry out activities that are a direct threat to our national security and sovereignty.”

"Sadly, it doesn’t look like the government that Vigneault serves sees it that way. While not as bullish on China as he once was, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is still too subservient to Beijing, something this apology shows."

"The federal government doesn’t need to pick needless fights with a global giant like China, but as our prime minister, Trudeau should at least be willing to stand up for Canada against Beijing’s bullies."

I do not disagree with the sentiment of your post but I would be interested in hearing your views on what could be done in a practical manner.

Get rid of a party that isn't fit to run a lemonade stand?

It won't solve everything with China, but at the least amongst other things, the government might find some backbone?

OK lets say they have more of a backbone, what exactly is Canada with 37 million soul's going to do with 1.39 billion.

Are we going to send a gunboat? Somehow wage a succesful cyber war? Cut of good's to China? Send in boots on the ground?

Seize billions in Canadian Real Estate of Chinese owners? Seize any Chinese owned assets?

Or do what O'Toole would do if he was is power like Harper, make more trade deals with them, twiddle his thumb's, DEMAND the Chinese give us back our two guys OR ELSE OR ELSE WHAT?

Well, for starters some other administration might have the backbone not to negotiate with hostage takers.Might have the backbone to decide they should have nothing to do with the roll out of 5G. Currently, they are also buying tons of Canola and more that we could do stuff about. We might also regain some respect with our allies and 5 eyes partners etc. And while China is huge, when you act in concert with allies.......

You asked for a practical solution, you got one. Not my fault you didn't like it. And ffs someday you might grow up, and be able to just simply look at "what is", and how things "could be done differently/better" without having to resort to deflection or speculation. You have no idea, what a different administration may or may not do, may or may not achieve. None of us do.

    But obviously you fear change.
