The tax credit is to encourage people who may not otherwise donate, to give a little. And in return get a little back by saving on what's owed.
I'm not a fan of "tax the rich". More often than not, it strikes me as people wanting their cake and wanting others to pay for it. Anybody but me syndrome.
That said, the well off and above have the means, and dozens of ways to reduce their tax loads, as well as shelter. While peons have neither.
Given the times, the state of things. I would not be against eliminating/ limiting/adjusting some or many. Just look at Ontario. The fiscal shape we are in, problems with Hydro, healthcare, creating jobs, and more. And these problems all existed long before 2020. And for those that might say " growth in GDP. Which is more anybody but me.....
1) how's that worked for Ontario since 2008-2010
2) Sunny days last forever.....until they don't...meaning who can promise there won't be another 2008 in the next 12 years.....
Broadly speaking, who voted for the mess.
The well off and rich. Not those that are struggling to put food on the table, pay Hydro, Carbon Taxes, other taxes and fees, and trying to find 2 nickles to save. It's past time they pay for what they wanted. Owned their choices. Tax credits, etc. Are but one way.

I have always said and personally follow this method of my charitable works (I do lots), Start with your neighbour, your street, your community - it is there if you look all around you will find poverty. Give without expectation, give what you can do in time, work and money and give often. I am not religious at all - however - if you go to your local church and ask the priest they know who needs help, same with local shelter, pet rescue, woman's ("Persons" shelter, trying to be politically correct in line with Uncle Joe) shelter.
DO NOT EVER support a corp charity, that includes MOD, United Way -
Agreed, especially the last line, I am quite careful on the charities I choose and their accomplishments and more should be.

Looking at the debt at this point the amount each individual owes is probably close to what the average income is for a Canadian worker. Note though that many are below the tax limit so don't pay much or any taxes and the taxpayers is a much smaller group so the current debt when calculated against those actually working in Canada may be 3 or 4X (or more) higher than that "average" salary. So money that goes to a cause or need directly is much better use of those funds by far.
As for taxing the rich, Trudeau for example has atleast 3 numbered companies I saw reported, yet he attacks small business/farmers and those actually working... as compared to his dancing, wearing silly socks and lying. Justlied has a huge pension waiting (yes smaller since Harper made changes but still a good one) and those same business are now taxes on passive income too... what a louse!
