So, if this person had hoofed one of the coppers in the nards, prior to the video, would that change the perspective ? We don’t know what happened to cause the police response. We never do in these video posts. Cops always look bad because the whole scenario is never seen. My questions are, what caused such a large police response ? What caused, what would appear to be a large gathering of yelling people ? There is a lot more to this than what we see on a video clip. What I saw, police trying to arrest an actively resisting person ! No more, no less! I don’t know what caused the response or the arrest. I do know, and I’m speaking from experience as a use of force instructor, a person that should have been grounded and handcuffed.

Fight with the police and you get what you deserve. The law always wins.

    from earlier link...

In other words, you may be lawfully arrested if you fail to provide your details to the police if the police believe on reasonable grounds that you have or are about to commit an offence.

In the current case, the police stated, “I do believe you are committing an offence”, whereas they contradict themselves in other times of the videos by saying “you are not being detained”.

Police also have powers to deal with these matters using other discretionary powers. For example, in this case it was open for the police to their powers to issue a move along direction or warn her that she may be arrested.
She was told she wasn't being detained by the Capt (lady ) officer...so she could refuse to give her name and no reason for her to be taken down and handcuff her.

If you fight with police officers you will lose eventually. If you want to fight the legal system the place to do it is in court. You can win there.

Haven't commented because, while I personally think the cops were overstepping. That's based on the video presented which does not show the entire incident. And I am not overly familiar with Australia's Covid law, just know they are pretty draconian. That said, earlier I did a few google searches using slightly different terms such as AU police brutality covid, AU police excessive force, AU police arrest women.

Will just say google yielded some surprising results. Quite a few reports of excessive force complaints, noteworthy against women,

While I usually side with cops and believe to a degree they should get the benefit of doubt. We don't have to look hard, nor think hard to recall incidents where more and more they are behaving like power hungry goons. All kinds of problems in the US over this issue. And more occurring here as well. Like teens being beaten by cops and losing eyes, and far more. Our cops are human too, and humans, nor any particular class are beyond the foibles and infallibility of humanity.

    Some just think they are.
I've never much agreed with do as cops tell because they are god...That article Mike linked spells it out. Resisting arrest is only resisting when cops have grounds. And for what it's worth, early on in the vid it's quite evident she wasn't under arrest.

Looks and sounds to me, like the cops escalated it.

Not really. Once a person refuses to identify, then the arrest can follow, not the other way around. Typically in these “clusters”, there’s too many officers giving demands.....once a person was arrested for fail to identify, the identification was usually done at the station.
But that’s here...no idea about AS law...she didn’t need to be “detained” for her to have to identify herself. The officer said,” I believe you have committed an offence”...that’s enough ..
