The saw is only as good as sharping. Chains and bars need attention or you just beat the chit outta the saw.

I have an old Husky 61 that I bought 25 years ago. I burn 4-5 bush cords a year and have been recently cutting triple that per year and selling it and this is my go to saw. Period. When I started selling wood a few years back I bought a 272XP from the same era (mid 90's) for cutting the big stuff and it has not proven to be reliable. I have used a newer model 55cc Jonsered recently and absolutely love it! As has been mentioned the better you get at chain and bar maintenance the more your saw will impress you.

So oddly enough, after replying to this topic. Yesterday my buddy brings his saw over (Rancher 55) identical to mine..piled up, won’t start, idle blah blah. So I took apart cleaned it, changed plug, air filter, fuel filter , fresh gas, sharpened chain and took rakers down. Runs better then mine now lol. These saws work and need alittle Love once and while ...25+year old saws

Nice, well done.
Another problem I see often is guys not mixing gas properly. Don’t be cheap, use premium gas and oil and if the mix oil can says mix with 10 lt. of fresh gas, that’s what you do. Pretty simple.

What I do near the end of season is alittle seafoam and this VP 50:1 premix. Another thing I find is these new air filters make a big difference. Felt junk vs these Screen type.

Mucked my husky up last month trying to hollow out a log with it lol. Did a little dance inside and bent something [emoji23]. Have to take it in for repairs now before cutting down 2 more trees just waiting to be cut down .

I use mine year round so my gas gets used up. Yes the last two Husky I had used the screen type filter. I need to check the one on the new Stihl. ?

Good Luck with the repairs.
The pre mix gas is actually a great thing if you don’t use your saw much.
I ended up buying 3 small cans of pre mix just to get extended warranty.
It used to be a 6 pack of mixing oil to get extended warranty.
