    Leaves look like a lilac.
    But....
They flower in spring/May and that tree is definitely big enough to flower if it was a true Lilac.

For Tree Identification the book: Trees in Canada by John Laird Farrar is a really excellent and easy to use resource.

Definitely a lilac, they come in different shades of pink/purple and white.

I have 2 lilacs and they have both already blossomed out weeks ago. Also the trunk on your tree looks nothing like mine. Mine have many branches shooting out from ground level. They are basically as wide as they are high. Kills the grass from lack of sun and rain. Yours doesn't seem to have that? Also the blooms are extremely aromatic.

I’m suspicious of people who don't like dogs, but I trust a dog who doesn't like a person.

Lilacs come in bush form and also tree form, and there are varieties that bloom mid summer.

To OP, this is a great idea. By the way do the leaves continuously come off through the year. I have a lotus, makes a red flower in spring, but dumps leaves ALL year round ... what a pain.
