The 1lb pellets will not last as well as a block. The more surface area the faster the dry ice melts.
I don't know how far it is back to town or if you would be making a beer/grocery run once or twice, but if you do you can get more dry ice.

Important thing to remember. If you put the ice on top it works better at freezing, the food on the bottom.

Too bad you couldn't get some Liquid nitrogen to flash freeze the food and then no need to add a block of dry ice. Don't laugh I have seen it done, and it keeps for a long time..at -195.79°C (77K). A 3 or 6 liter LN2( Liquid nitrogen)tank ( bottle)would give you enough LN2 to keep the food frozen for a month or more even in a normal cooler. Just add a few ladles of LN2 a couple times a day and not only will your steaks stay frozen, but you can use them to pound railway spikes.

Take the warning labels off. Darwin will solve the problem.

Sorry, but you would never be able to keep liquid N2 for very long even in a nitrogen Dewar.
Its -350 F and evaporates quickly.

Yup. True 20 liters would only take 140 days to boil off. So if I was venting the nitrogen vapor through a cryogenic rated hose into my cooler/meat box, a 20L Vacuum bottle would only keep the meat frozen for about 140 days. That is 4.5 MONTHS by the way.

Praxair in the Soo sells fist sized 1lb nuggets for buck/lb. I havent checked anywhere else yet. I'm going to build a styrofoam lined box to put the cooler in, that should help considerably?
No doubt, and if you take out your daily needs and put them into another cooler and keep the one with CO2 closed, it will go a long time.

We have a very small freezer, about 2 1/2 foot square, we take moose hunting. Get it good and cold before we leave, plug it into the generator for a bit during the day... stuff stays frozen solid.
Would that work for you ??

I can’t remember. I got it off kijji a couple years ago. One guy can put it into the back of the truck.

    I believe it’s 4 or 5 sq ft.
The model I thought it looked like turned out to be a fridge....I’ll see what I can find out. It’s up in Fort Francis now.
It looks like the Danby model
