Just going by what has been reported so far, did not know he had mental illness.
One thing that people still do not consider is their mental health but it is as important if not more important than physical health.
Kids in special needs classes are probably not mentally ill, but maybe I am defining mental illness differently. I do not see someone with autism as mentally ill, I see someone not seeking treatment for symptoms that are dangerous as mental illness, but it can be brought on by different factors, autism being one of them, if that makes any sense.

I knew he had a mental illness the second he started running people over with a van.
I'm not a cop, but I would not be taking my chances that it was a phone in his hand, I would of shot him until my gun was empty.
It could have been a detonator for a bomb in the van or a home made gun, who knows.
But I guess the cop made the right call, I still don't like the fact that taxpayers are going to pay for this piece of for the rest of his life, or he will be on the street in 10 years, like that guy that decapitated another person on the bus.

I would tend to agree, although I think we’ve had enough coverage of cops emptying their clip into someone, one or two shots wouldn’t have offended me
