Honestly, if you have to shoot and kill someone who is coming into your home to kill you or someone in your family then I would much rather have a court case than be dead, so who really cares what the laws are, it is not like you are going to keep from shooting and be killed because you do not want to defend your actions in court.
There are consequences to your actions, positive and negative, you use your judgement and I will use mine, I do not fear anyone will be coming in through my door to kill me.
Violent crime numbers in Canada are very low and your chances of being involved in one goes way down if you simply do not commit crimes yourself.
The rate of homicide in Canada in 2012 was 1.56/100,000, attempted murder was 1944/100,000. In the US the rate of homicide was 4.5/100,000, that is 2.88x greater murder rate in Canada than in the US and guess what, we cannot legally walk around with loaded guns all over the place and have loaded guns laying about in our homes. Oh, and I forgot, when was the last time a 3 year old shot and killed their mother in Canada? I do not recall that every happening, but it has happened multiple times in the US.
CANADA IS NOT THE US, STOP THE FEAR.
No we are not the U.S, but to think violent crime doesnt exist or is low is ignorant. Like stated, I grew up in a less then desireable neighbourhood and saw or dealt with violent crime constantly. No, I am not a criminal as you so eloquently tried to accuse me of being nor did myself or my associates partake in criminal action. That never stopped the fact that I was mugged several times, one time sending me to the hospital with a stab wound to the chest amd another resulting in multiple gashes and stitches on my head and face. The criminal act I committed was walking home in the middle of the day from school. I buried a good friend that was killed because he worked hard to buy himself a nice car that someone thought they deserved more then he did. Dont ing sit on your high horse and tell me Canada is a utopia that simply doesnt have violent crime. Get a ing gun shoved in your face and beg for someone not to kill you or your family and then tell me crime doesnst exist. I have lived it, I can assure you it does. I am not saying everyone should carry a loaded gun, my thoughts are quite the opposite, what I am saying, IMO, is Canada has to stop making legal gun owners the criminals. Its simple, you enter my home with ill intentions you forefit your right to live.
Stop living in a bubble, statistics, try visiting the real world.

Wow.
So much abusive vitriol.
I only said I am glad to live in a country that is so peaceful that carrying loaded firearms 24/7 is not necessary because it is so rare a need.
I never said I would not defend my family with all available means.
If you attack me, I will fight back with whatever arsenal is available to me.
All who work with me know that I operate under the principal of “Don’t let the rules stop you from doing what is right”.
There has never been a society where safety is 100% guaranteed.
But, there are risks and benefits to keeping LOADED guns in your home.
In Parts of the USA, the benefits might exceed the risks.
Pathetic that the most advanced society in the world also has personal security risk same as the lawless Dark Ages.
In virtually all of Canada the risks are higher than the benefits. And that is why I prefer to live in Canada
So, I return my original post—I am mercifully glad to live in a country where fear of attack is so rare that carrying and/or having loaded guns at home is the norm.

A 60 years old woman shot an armed intruder and all you had to say was "I'm glad we don't have that rule up here". And why's that? And now you are back tracking.....
Plenty of Canadians going on vacation/business in the States and you called it a "Horrible" country. No wonder no one agree with you...

Pathetic still.
Why crawfish and run backwards now? You voiced your true colors, your opinion and moral beliefs on the case in question why use weasel words now and run for the rule book and 3rd party protection? You posted the stupid crap.
One more time slowly so it can sink into that solid, thick head....it isn't all about risk as you try to portray. It is about freedom, personal freedom, something else you are ignorant of.
Libtards always try to force their opinion on others. No one is forcing you to be a man and protect your family, however don't attempt to dictate and criticize what I choose to do to protect mine 'cause I'm damned sure not like you, don't think like you libs and pray I never will be like you.
