what kind of bug is this.
I'm trying to find out what kind of bug is this? And can it cause any damage to my house. I'm finding them in the garage and basement. Any help would be great thanks.

I have a detailed insect book at home Daniel so I will look it up later this afternoon. Looks to be a beetle of some kind or another.

I believe this is a Stag Jaw Carabid, they eat other insects.

It's a big headed ground beetle Daniel. They eat other pest bugs and snails so they are beneficial to have around.

By the way, his name is Carl...
