A Down To Earth Question
I was looking at a map of Algonquin park and see where there must be a thousand marked camp sites - I'm assuming that most of these are used pretty regularly during most of the year - now comes the question - people using these sites need to relieve themselves at times - you know - take a crap - now from what I read the proper thing to do is dig a hole - fill it and then cover it with dirt - some times because there is rock all over this process can't be accomplished - so what eventually happens - you take your life in your hands wandering away from the fire pit and tent areas with a high probability of stepping on a mine - is this a problem using these camp sites - not only that but I guess flies can be a problem from these mines - if you have ever used these camp sites what is your experience from camping at these sites - trying to find out as much as possible before hitting the trail - thanks

Every campsite has a plywood thunderbox constructed about 50 yards away.
You dont need to worry about flies or landmines.

JoePa this post brings back some good memory's. I was a Junior Ranger in Algonquin over 40 years ago, (holly crap I'm getting old) one of the things we did was put up prefabbed plywood outhouse on remote campsites and remove older ones that the porky's chewed the hell out of. A number of years later they changed to a box with a flip up cover as HJ is using.

Years ago we took guests into a remote campsite that we liked on Lingham Lake. One of the nice things about this spot was a small sand beach where kids could play. This trip we found that the beach was covered in fresh feces. Haven't been back....
