TICKS!
Our neighbor across the road called on Tues am. and said "they are here " meaning ticks as I had told him that in the 40 years we have been here, we have never seen any. By here I mean between Cambridge, Sheffield and St. George On.
He told me his wife asked him to look at her back as it itched for a couple of days in one area, upon looking he found a tick on her back with the telltale red bulls eye rash, AND YES IT WAS A BLACK LEGGED TICK. He looked up how to remove it , it was still only about an 1/8 inch in size, but in removing it the head broke off and remained embedded.
They couldn't get to see their doctor as the office was closed that day , and wed. , but saw him yesterday . Upon examining by their doctor , he then took the tick remains to send out for testing to see if it carried the "Borreliosis" bacteria , they were sent to the Cambridge Memorial Hospital, where they waited for over 3 hours to see a doctor.
Fortunately , this doctor was well informed about "Lyme " disease and immediately said we are taking no chances as it has been over 48 hours,
and prescribed a antibiotic which she has to take twice a day for 14 days.
In the meantime they are waiting for the test results to come back to find out if this tick did indeed have the Borreliosis bacteria in it, hopefully not as the all do not carry it.
They are keeping their fingers crossed and anxiously hoping for the best.
Just as a precaution , every one that is outdoors should be very watch full now as these buggers can be anywhere, they used to say that you wouldn't find them anywhere on cultivated ground, but my neighbors wife obviously found one that latched on to her as she was working around their garden, cleaning it up ready for planting.

We have had ticks for years near longpoint and Lake Erie. Have to check yourself after ever outing. My daughter had one right on her throat last year. Nasty littel critters

That we are well aware of, but we have never had them in this area.

Anything that can legally be sprayed around the property to address ticks? Obviously this is a bandaid solution - but curious if this would help the scenario of people working in their own gardens etc....
