    Default Thermal Waste Treatment Facilities

    Anyone live near one?

There is one being proposed up here just outside of Thunder Bay by a company name Orion. They supposedly also have one or more in operation around Etobicoke.

Just curious about particulate fallout or other issues near the facility that you may have experienced - or not!

To clarify, these are the facilities that take non-hazardous garbage and break it down, resulting in syn-gas, oil and other by-products.

With modern rules, I wouldn't worry....

Most of the emissions/by-products are not a big deal to me, however, as I am within 10km from the proposed location, the particulate emissions may be a concern.

I wouldn't worry about it - once Trump starts upping the burning coal again you won't be able to distinguish the particulate from that small plant from the particulate coming up there from down here - see there is always a happy solution to any problem -

Good to not hear about anyone having had any issue living near one so far.

Stack scrubber technology is quite good. Unless someone does something moronic or negligent, then I don't think we'll have to worry as much about coal-generators spewing mass amounts of particulate in the air. I guess it depends on when and how the EPA requirements kick in there.

    .
MOE, like OMAFRA or the MNR, have been gutted since the early-mid 90's. I don't think she'll play much of a role in a small company looking to cook up to 100 tons of waste a day.

Of course, maybe this will be a new Provincial initiative. Make it mandatory for all municipalities to process their waste, so that we can stop misusing so much arable land - just to stuff people's junk in.
