Real patient lives are at risk when their surgeries are cancelled to save beds for computer modeled Covid patients. I asked Christine Elliott how many lives are lost by canceling surgeries vs. how many lives saved?
If beds are full then release the data for all to see! But WHY cancel surgeries of ambulatory patients who DON'T NEED a BED! Christine Elliott’s answer reminds me of FordNation saying that anyone who needs a legal aid certificate can call his office and get one.

All well and good MikePal but as it stands right now we are being held hostage not by our political leadership, but by a virus, and the fact that the 1% is tying up our hospitals services and IUC capacity and providing the government with the excuse to keep things shutdown. Plus natural immunity is likely to be along time coming, if this virus is continually being given the opportunity to reinvent itself which large gathering provide, in spite of them providing for the possibility for herd immunity. But each to their own, so have fun at the freedom rally, and spread the immunity, as you see fit. I prefer to take my chances with the shutdowns and the vaccination approach. Those that plan on rallying for freedom - please take some time to visit the local hospitals in those places and offer your assistance to the nurses and doctors in the ICU. Ask them if they feel your efforts are helping or hindering what they deal with every day.
I agree our government has handled COVID dismally and that Trudeau especially has taken advantage of our situation to further his own position. We can vote him out soon enough but go see for yourself how the GTA hospitals are doing. Ask the nurses and doctors how busy they are and what YOU can do to best help the situation.

JT, the Liberals, health officials, many of those in healthcare have really been pushing “AZ”. While many of them are fully dosed on Pfizer/Moderna.
No “complaints” here, with front line workers being at the front of the line. But it does mean, given their screw ups acquiring vaccines, everyone else would need to wait a hell of a long time.
It also means, those outside hot zones, would need to wait even longer for P or M. In effect potentially recreating what happened to First Nations when Europeans arrived in NA.
With AZ supplies relatively plentiful, and not being gobbled up, they opened the floodgates to the larger demographic and those aged 40+. Those, who are at smaller risk, and those who we could assume are more social. Want to get out and about...basically, the most likely age demographics to be spreading it, and some of whom, will no doubt feel even more able to mingle. I’m vaxxed...
On the airwaves today, the Liberals and officials are making soundbytes. Lots, about 40% of the population now having received a shot.
Makes for good press, given the beating they took fall through winter over their vaccine screw ups.
What better way to save face and votes.
Politically motivated to get as many as possible jabbed, as fast as possible despite risk, and in some ways, perhaps, not as efficiently to protect those at risk.

Great post. This is classic Tru-dough scrambling to deal with yet another screw up in vaccine roll out and pandemic response. It is baffling to me how badly he has done with this since last year - one fall after another, from his deals with China at the beginning of the pandemic to a failure to create our own vaccine solution on Canadian soil. Like a bandaid on a bullet wound...
And to add to that, they relied on the Provincial Governments to actually lobby for vaccines from US and other countries, as well as administer the vaccines. So basically, the provinces did all the work, but Turdeau is trying to take the praise.Quote:

In retrospect, factoring for a number of things. I may have argued/decided.
Ok, I screwed up getting vaccines. I need to try and make the most of what we get.
Healthcare workers, front of the line and they need two shots within time frames. They are also, working ages. 25-60. By and large lower risk. What vaccine do we have the most of now, and can we get the fastest.
Which vaccines, are better suited to those most at risk (55+) and will we have the least of.
and with respect to hotzones, and those outside not getting jabbed as fast. So potentially more vulnerable. As they wait and wait. Opening the floodgates to people far younger is kind of counter intuitive. Know one friend that went to get her booked long before shot, just days after they opened the floodgates. Drove 90 minutes, just to be told “sorry, we’re out now”. Then drove 90 more minutes to another town, for the AZ.
It’s kind of odd that makers are slamming them for greatly extending the time between shots. Despite risk, and despite having known for some time there’s a small risk with AZ.
But, not so odd when you look at the need to save face, jab as many as possible and votes, having screwed up so badly.
My common sense tells me that this is a bad idea. Sure, we can be upset at our governments for blotching the vaccine procurement and roll out. But the problem for this didn’t happen overnight. Years of many different governments led to this. And before anyone picks apart what governments did what and how one is better than the other, you are wrong. Times have changed and this is as much a popularity contest as it is a money grab. It is a race to see who can screw things up worse without getting the boot. As far as I see it, the whole world is aligned this way. I doubt any governments globally are trying to do the best for their nations and taking nothing in return but a pat on the back. This is the new reality. It’s a business with no consequences for going belly up, but still rewarded for giving it a try.
The anger that is so evident, not only in this post, but the months of posts out there is misguided. PEOPLE it is a contagious virus we are up against. If you really believe in all these conspiracy theories of this not being the case, continue as you were. But please don’t complain when it catches up to you. Like any virus, it travels and will come to you sooner or later. You can’t run from the common cold, this is the same. If you don’t believe in all the truly sick, dead and dying, look around; it’s on the news, it’s in our hospitals, it’s GLOBAL. We are no different than anywhere else. There are casualties and will continue to be so if we don’t follow sound advice. Social distancing is just common sense. Lock downs suck, we can all agree to that. But if it keeps people at home and prevents large crowds from mingling than it stops the chance of the virus from spreading which in turn prevents possible death. If some people want to play Russian roulette and believe their immune system is better than average, go for it. But again don’t complain when the virus finds you. Make sure your will is up to date just in case.
So many repetitive angry posts over the handling of this situation and the governments at work. It’s nuts. Did we all forget that this originated in China. Did we all forget the WHO postponed calling this a pandemic and praised chinas handling of the situation. Look where we are now. Billions of dollars lost or wasted in shutdowns, business closures, government loans, etc. Supply chains being stretched to the brink and will continue to do so. But hey, everyone is still ok to save a buck and buy Chinese made products. No punishments so far for China, who did know about this and kept the information to themselves.
As far as vaccines go, why is there such a lack of trust? If hundreds of millions of people are using them, with no horrible side effects (except AstraZeneca) and it shows to stop death or horrible symptoms of COVID-19, then it looks ok. If governments are trusting them used on our doctors and other first responders, it must be ok. If world wide military’s are being vaccinated with them, then I’d bet they’re ok. If the vaccines are bad, or if there’s some kind of hidden agenda with their use, then why jeopardize your nations ability to defend itself or care for itself? Common sense, no?
I’m not arguing my opinion versus anyone else’s. There’s really no point. All I’m saying is that time will go on, this pandemic will pass and things will return to some sense of normal. Griping and complaining is a great pass time but don’t let it eat you up, there’s truly nothing that it will change. Stay safe.

I'll add a personal story that happen in the last week.
My son had brain surgery at 16, he suffered multiple massive seizures last week, by the end of the week he was not recovering very well and was having localized temporal lobe tremors that were devastating to watch. I took him to emerge on Friday.
They didnt have an eeg available to put him on for monitoring in Peterborough.
I brought him home only to have to bring him back the next morning.
We normally visit Toronto Western for all his appointments. The doctor said he needed an eeg to monitor and we tried to work out a plan to get him to T W. Emerg and then into
the eeg dept.
The doc called TW only to find out that
the entire eeg floor for monitoring has been shut down due to covid. To say the doc was frustrated is an understatement.
Toronto Western is the neurology Hospital of our country.
I can only imagine the amount of despair from people that are suffering from anything other than covid.

Ok so let’s let logic take over again.
If the above is the case, why aren’t we hearing a large number of nurses and doctors warning of it? It seems to me that the doctors and nurses are URGING everyone to social distance and get the vaccine. Then once the numbers are down we can resume regular patient care. These are extreme circumstances, everyone needs to recognize that. And having silly rallies only goes to show that some cannot come to terms with logic. Viruses can become airborne and spread through a crowd quickly. This in turn will continue the need for beds in the ICU for the patients with covid-19.
If people would only listen, we could be done by now. Let’s all do our part.

There are lots of ways to protest other than a rally. Email campaigns, petitions, call-ins to elected officials and attending online public meetings with medical officials. I do not disagree with anyone who says our government screwed this up!! I will, however, side with the overwhelming advice from medical experts around the world on how to deal with COVID. I am not an epidemiologist or virologist, but I do have a science background, and the way out of this is simple science.
Viruses need hosts and they are us. Limit contact = no hosts = viruses die out. This is basic science, especially in regards to what we see in wildlife overpopulations. Vaccines can provide protection (not 100%) but history has shown they work (Polio, Smallpox, Yellow Fever). Are vaccines a magic bullet? Nope. Will our scientists and doctors make mistakes and sometimes have to change plans? Yep. Lets move on...
I support anyone on here who strongly wants to see a change in our government - I am with you. Corporations and Governments already know all about all of us anyway - got an IPhone? Ever read the licensing agreement? Use Google? Facebook? Twitter? Your habits are all tracked by evil corporations. Ever fill out a Census? File a tax return? Trudeau can find out where your kids go to school and what you had for breakfast. What keeps us free is the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and our Democratic rights. I do not think we, as a nation, will relinquish these things easily. Will it ever happen? We will see - but i have faith that it won't because we won't let it happen as a free society and as we can see on here, many of you are watching closely. That's great! I hope to see you at the polls or at the next open house with the PM because I have some hard questions to ask him too...
So - in the mean time, be safe and respect others and try to make a positive difference where you can. I don't wear a mask or follow COVID rules because I trust Trudeau - I do it because it might keep somebody's grandmother or parent out of the hospital. Remember, what you sow you will reap. There was recently an article (can't remember the source) about evidence of airborne transmission. If airborne transmission is the primary mode of transmission, all the measures we've taken over the past 1.5 years have been incorrect. However, this article then went on to discuss the importance of vaccination in light of this discovery. The spin. The scientific fact was airborne transmission, the vaccine push was the opinion of the news outlet.
The people making money don't want this pandemic to end. They're already hinting at the UK being unable to lift further restrictions because of fears of the "Indian Variant".

Well gentlemen, all I can say is I don’t live south of the border, and I’m not sure what we are doing that may be a miss in this country. All I know is that in this neck of the woods, every time a large crowd gets together, there seem to be an escalation in the spread of the virus. Every time the infection numbers reach a certain plateau and place a strain on the medical system, we end up in a lockdown. As for the rodeo out west, I’m not sure they bother to do any tracing, they may have viewed it as a loss cause after so large a gathering. That said, it would appear they are dealing with an increase in infection numbers which they are attempting to reign in. In the meantime, what becomes of the infection numbers in this province, only time will tell. God I hope you’re right and I’m wrong, I would truly like to enjoy the summer, as oppose to being saddled with another summer of lockdown.Quote:
