With the announcement of a State of Emergency in Ontario we have taken steps to further ensure the safety and health of our team and our clients so that we may continue to provide care to your pets at this time. We ask your help in achieving this.
If you are self-isolating, have traveled outside of Canada in the past 14 days, have been in direct contact with a traveler in the past 14 days, have been diagnosed or are awaiting test results for COVID-19 or are ill in any way please do not come to the hospital. An agent (friend or family member who has not traveled or is not ill) can bring your pet to the hospital for you. This will help our team to stay healthy and able to continue to provide care.
We have been disinfecting the hospital frequently in an attempt to reduce the risk of transmission here.
We have put the following steps in place to reduce your time in the hospital and your contact with other people while we see our patients:
~If you are required to come into the hospital observe the six-foot social distancing rule with team members or other clients. Wait until you are called to the reception desk and please stand back three feet from the desk. We will only allow maximum of two clients in our front offices at any time.
~When you call in for an appointment, we will take a history of your pet’s issue over the phone.
~When you come to the hospital the door will be locked. One of our team members will meet you outside to bring in the patient for their examination with the veterinarian into the hospital. You will be asked to remain in your car and await a phone call from the technician and veterinarian.
~We are not booking non-essential appointments at this time but will be re-evaluating that in April.
~To achieve social distancing only two people will be allowed in the waiting room at a time if necessary, to come inside at all.
~We prefer credit card payment at this time, that we can collect your number over the phone and process. If a credit card is not available, we do have tap on our Point of Sale terminal that would be the second preferred method for the safety of our staff.
~Curbside service: When ordering food, prescriptions or products credit card payment will be taken over the phone. When you arrive for your order call us and open your car trunk. We will bring the order out and place it in the trunk.
~On-line ordering for Prescription Diets, pet food, products, treats and toys is available at MyVetStore.ca Please let us know if you need help setting up an account, there is a home delivery option available.
~The company we purchase our products from is experiencing back orders especially in relation to pet food orders. This is due to people ordering extra food at this time. Please be patient and order your pet’s food earlier than needed to ensure we will have it when you need it. We reserve the right to restrict large quantity orders at this time until this situation resolves.
We will work together to find ways to help your pet. We are here to help you, your pet and our team stay healthy through this time.
Two days ago we were talking about having 1000 cases in Canada by Monday....it’s Wednesday night and we are over 700. Here we go.
What Canada could be like.
I also read another article that researchers say it may take up to a year or to clear. Cant find it again tho.

.... and our gov't is .... enhanced screening... handing out pamphlets...... "all the airports have scanners".... in Pakistan but NOT in Canada.... "69% of cases are travellers " are COVID-19
NO CORONAVIRUS SCREENING: Pakistani arrivals to Canada surprised no one took their temperature

No one working and spending money to buy gas eat out or flying for the extra tax money .Maybe Justin and his buddies are going to kick it in from thier trust funds
Mosq. Back in January and February both you and Trim21 said the virus was not a problem ( as late as Feb 26th for T21), just media hype. Even though DR's and countries overseas were warning us. Then by March 4th. you were saying it was our present governments fault as they were not doing enough. you went from fake news, , to not doing enough in one week. You are still complaining about what is being done ,and what has been done, even when you were one of the last to admit the world had a serious situation. Get off your high horse, your denial was part of the problem. This health crisis would not be any different , no matter which political party is in power. We will come through this better off than 98% of the world.
What of my thoughts? My thoughts are the same. The great silly socks didn't want to impact travel and trade, he chose to ignore the warnings from other countries so now we can follow suit. My words in that post were my imitation of govt.
Funny how a simpleton like myself could see how things were going to go but Trudeau couldn't see it.
Granted there's something bigger at play here in the decisions making department. It appears as though the govt wants the virus to sweep through the population.

We will come through this better off than 98% of the world.
IF we do G, its only because of our small population density and IM not so humble opinion, the basic good, the basic "care for other humans" the vast majority of Canadians have. From what I can see anecdotally, the vast majority are taking social distancing seriously and without much fuss. Not due to anything governments, or high brows, do or don't do.
What remains to be seen, is whether or not, the vast majority of Canadians feel the same when the financial hardships start. I'm betting things will get be very different. I shared a great post on FB this am. It is so true.
"Funny how all these low skilled, un-educated jobs ( cleaners, delivery drivers, retail assistants, gas station attendants) that so many look down on are now on the frontline holding society together whilst we work from home. Those jobs aren't low skilled, they are essential to a functioning society and they should be paid as such"... End quote.
To put that into some perspective, what would your life be like without garbage collectors.......What would the next 2-3 months be like if they "worked from home". I have friends sharing memes about Nurses, etc. True yes, in this time they are going to shine. And we can expect casualties there. While hundreds are liking that post, calling them hero's.
Have we forgotten the lowly janitors keeping medical facilities sterile......................
And who I wonder, is going to get hit the hardest.......
As of yesterday Italy reported its highest death count in a day at 475. They are on course to surpass China. North America is on the same course just a couple weeks behind and gaining ground. Much of our country is still going to work everyday so we have no legitimate lockdown in this country whatsoever. More travelers landing home everyday infected from abroad.
Thinking we hit 1000 today
When you look at the reality, it is still small numbers and alot of hype and fear, common sense is almost completely absent, hence the toilet paper hoarding, then it was even more hype and a bit of planning would have made a huge difference. But the Lib's live in unicorn and rainbow land and implementing something like what the Conservatives suggested... or even closing that illegal crossing... not happening!!
I also was the one that brought up the moron's in power should be screening (which was a Conservative idea repeated many times) and two months later the utter incompetence of the Liberals is still showing... still no screening as of last night! Their promises are nothing but lies and confetti tossed in the air to distract and they didn't even start that farce until after the PM's wife caught it. They could have done alot to spread out the curve as they call it now because the reality still is that people will have to return to work and it will spread again. With the current 69% are travellers if this goes the way of Italy they should face criminal charges in my opinion, even 10% of those caught then the curve could have been slowed... but no screening, then lies about it... beyond pathetic incompetence!
.... the alternative is deliberate sabotage and it's implications.

All bets are off, I said it would be 500 by the weekend and it blew past that! 690 as of last update

Globally
191 127confirmed (15 123)
7807 deaths (786)
What you've cited is 3 weeks to 2 months old. Data evolves and information becomes more readily available and more accurate. There's something we all need to think about and that's that out of the 400 million people who live in north America,as of today, there's still less than 10 thousand identified cases of Covid-19 with less than one thousand deaths. Are all the prescribed precautions prudent to stop the spread of the virus? Of course. Is all the hysteria being stoked by the media justified? I think we need to take a lot of it with healthy dose of skepticism. The media is driving some people into blind panic which is worse than the disease.
Our government has closed the border to all non-essential travel....except for migrant workers from Mexico and Central America and illegal immigrants sneaking across the border at unmanned entry points. I wish the government would stop trying to suck and blow at the same time.
WE HAVE TO AVOID THE SITUATION IN ITALY!!!! FULL STOP!
This virus lives in healthy (non-symptomatic people) for days. This virus has a LOW mortality rate ONLY if people can get the right treatment.
When hospitals are over-capacity, they CANNOT treat everyone, so people die needlessly ... that means a 2% to 3% mortality rate turns into a 7% to 9% (and climbing) mortality rate.
If that happens ... take your family, a decide who out of each group of 10 is going to die ... you do it, because that is the decision doctors ARE facing in Italy. You REALLY want to go there???
I suspect some will simply say it won't happen, based on nothing ... just hot air ... but I also expect MOST of you agree ... it can happen (maybe we can argue the odds) and we need to avoid it.
So how do we avoid it? We suck, we are not prepared ... all we know is social distancing ... segregation ... stop the QUICK spread ... LORD knows our hospitals already have 3h wait times at Emergency on a normal day ... we are all screwed if we even have 3000 that are positive. It won't take much to break our health care system ... In the end, the best we can hope for, is that this feels like we over-reacted ... because that means it worked! You can't wait until 20% or 30% of the population is sick to react ... it is WAY WAY WAY too late. You need everyone healthy, and to stay healthy for this to work ... so it HAS to feel like we over-reacted. If it doesn't, it means that too many people got sick, and it didn't work!!
Lastly, I have second hand information that people who have symptoms are NOT being tested ... turned away from the hospital ... so this is even worse ... there are people with Symptoms that are not being counted, or treated, and in fact need to decide for themselves what the heck to do (go to pharmacy, groceries ... make others sick). Don't trust the official count ... it is meaningless ... infection rate is higher, just don't know by how much.
Fisher: yes, attitudes by many have changed and there remain many who still need to change. You’re not wrong but pointing out that some have changed their attitudes as information has evolved doesn’t make you more right.
Mosquito: agreed - Liberals have been far too slow to stop flights from problem areas, shut borders and enact screening. No surprises given their voter base in the 416/905, but the horse has long left the barn.
I read that at any given time, there are 3 million Canadians out of the country. I just wonder how many of those are Canadians that live, work and pay taxes here and how many are citizens of convenience that hold dual citizenship ?
Nice post MarkB.
We suck, we are not prepared ... all we know is social distancing ... segregation ... stop the QUICK spread ... LORD knows our hospitals already have 3h wait times at Emergency on a normal day ..
This and some other things is something I've been trying to highlight.
"liberals".
Yes, there is some or a lot of truth to this. FFS, just, just think about what this is, and is going to be like for Alberta. With respect to the 416/905. Again, truth to that/this.
As always, I like to mix in a little "reality" for perspective. My fiancé is high risk. She has been working contract at Trent U. For people on our side of the tracks ( outside the centre of the universe) a pretty good gig. But why contract? Well look around the province and the same old same , thats been argued for 15 FN years............Trent had another 4-6 month contract lined up for her when this one ends in 2 more weeks. Given reality, is that still going to be there?
Me?
I have been going for numerous test since December. Drs are trying to determine something. I am being screened for Cancer. So far, all test have been negative. My next one....now...is a hematologist in May. Others have been cancelled. For all we know I have Cancer and its spreading....tick tock.....
So not only have we been dealing with that, theres a fairly decent chance that whatever is going on, I may be high risk as well....
I was, or am, however you want to word it between jobs. My prospects of starting work soon?..............And even if I did, I now have to weigh the 'risk". If I come down with it, she is in a world of trouble.............
I seriously doubt, I or we are the only people in the world likely to be crushed by this one way or the other.
Sure, it's easy to blame the Liberals for a lot. Whether the current Federal admin, thats screwed Albertans over nine ways to Sunday. Ontario provincial Liberals that did soooooooooooooooooo much damage to this province, and especially the "less fortunate". Like those struggling to pay Hydro, and now.............
But I anyways, strongly suspect Cons wouldn't have been much better. Whats FORD done since getting into QP?
squat.....really, if your honest.
and with respect to Covid. What's he done? He, to just in recent days started ordering schools closed, put restrictions on bars, gatherings,
Hell, despite the FACT anyone can oder booze online and has been able to for a couple years.....The LCBO is still open.
Guess buck a beer is more important as well.
Forgot, there was a reason I mentioned all those people that struggle with the high cost this/that,Carbon taxes, fees and Hydro.
Funny, he can "fire" Hydro 1s CEO, but he can't order the OESB to force them to change time of use for "off peak" 24/7 for the next month or 3.
funny that
Well said MarkB! Another 425 dead in italy just today.
250 something cases in Ontario and 22 hospitalized.
That should help some people understand the seriousness of this. What happens when thousands are involved there will be thousands also hospitalized. No way our healthcare system can handle the extra pressure .

13 deaths.
I'm with oaknut
It's the governments way of a population control. They knew the seriousness yet continued to let it slide right into Canada they choose to shut down schools before any major border issues. Like a week or 2 would it of really mattered if they sealed the border early. Now everything is sealed oh wait only after the cant find all the invisible viruses. Who knew that would of happened. Had better odds of finding a pin in a bail of hay.

I'm in the same position I was supposed to start working again in a 2 weeks but they are pushing it back till may now. Then who knows when calls were coming in canceling left right and center last week.
Already been doing nothing but fishing the past few weeks lol. Looks like I have many more weeks of fishing. I told my daughter today that we will enjoy the river this year for sure if we're aloud out side of our houses.
Many are going to be in the same boat.
Might help a friend with the clean up this spring but other than that I have no idea what to do. I doubt now will be a time for hiring.
Going to be an interesting year that's for sure. Work loads already cut In half this year small business that hires half dozen people a year is already planning a single crew this year. Crazy stuff happening in 2020.
Thank god for my wife or we would be in a pickle soon.

Population control ? I think that’s a stretch guys
perhaps by Mother Nature but not government
Fish food.,
Sorry to hear that.
The reality is the peons are going to bear the brunt of this. But this time around, it could truly snowball....
How many seasonal workers for example are now screwed. EI, is either done. Or soon to be....
I know for example many LCBO part timers have their hours gutted over winter. Many go on EI to get through the winter. Feck, that describes a lot of small town Ontario. Now, consider how many of them, are older and maybe have a spouse at home that’s “high risk”. They going to go take a job for say $15-18 an hour, if it puts them at risk to bring it home????
I thought about volunteering somewhere that I could help out. Till my fiancé reminded me, if I bring it home...
I read an economist report today, that delved into some of the aid announced by the feds.
I’ll just copy one of the last paragraphs. Pay special attention to the last sentence. It’s is bang, spot, on.
I might offend some, sometimes. I regret that at times. But I call spades spades.
Since 2008, when many in same boat got crushed, and haven’t recovered..we’ve done jack. Made som things worse in fact...
in 3-6 months time. “Teachers” ( note quotes) or for many, life might be somewhat back to normal...might...
“In summary, these are some important measures from the federal government. They are not perfect, but time is of the essence. We can’t sweat the small stuff when we’ve laid off the entire retail, food and hospitality sectors in a single week. The effects of keeping them off work for only a few weeks will be economically catastrophic. There has been a focus on sickness benefits for those in self-isolation thus far and that’s important. However, it’s soon going to become a sideshow to massive unemployment.”
Coulda shoulda woulda
DEPRESSION is coming

We are in an ok position
But I have a feeling many are not . Feel sorry for the ones who can't afford it. Or the stress its causing to so many .
I'm not stressed yet but maybe next month I will be . This is not just going to be a few weeks or a month. We will be lucky to the golf courses open by late summer. Restaurant closed for months this is only the beginning .
Look what China did to solve the problem drastic changes . They had zero new cases today and they are also almost all cleared up. And it took a long time .

I bet we are in the thousands of untested cases and many are just continuing their daily lives.
My brothers work they had a worker come onto work his mother was tested positive after he mentioned that they sent him home for 2 weeks. Who says he didn't get the crew sick in the few hours he was there. .

How would those same people react if they were ,'ordered' or 'forced', (how?) to stay home? China's way of controlling it is not possible here, as the citizens would not stand for it. Will we go with 'obey or die' ?
Definitely there are thousands of unconfirmed/untested cases ... the guy that died yesterday from Milton ... results came in positive after he died.
There's a huge backlog on tests, and they won't add any numbers to the stats it until the test comes back positive. Furthermore, they are TURNING AWAY many
people who don't show full fledged symptoms (from what I've heard), with seeming the most important being body temperature. So those showing early
signs of symptoms are not being tested (the guy who died yesterday was apparently first turned away for testing, and given antibiotics ... his situation got worse, then
they tested, he died, and after that test results came back positive).
No doubt, everyone knows it ... there's more people who have it than what the stats say ... because that is how the system is designed (they are applying a factor to estimate the number of infections based on the number of confirmed cases ... it may be possible, by considering data from other countries to estimate that factor ... but I don't see anyone doing that right now).
I encourage you guys to look at these stats ... look at how vertical the US line is on new cases ... it's worse than every other country!
https://www.tradingview.com/covid19/
In many ways, the USA is a third world country.
That man from milton was from a committee spread. Remember one of the few first cases a man from milton took the transit from milton to Toronto for many days before he realized he was sick. It's been spreading for a over a week now for many who have no idea.
We are supposed to live like this until when ?
Until we passed the curve? Until its finished we wont be flattening the curve for a while the way we a doing things it could take a month to flatten the curve. Maybe even 2 months before we start seeing numbers decline.
Then what happens when when we all come out from hibernation the cycle will continue and boom again.
I wouldn't be surprised if China is back in business next week. If they keep the production going keep the doors closed except for goods and services they will be alright. While the rest of the world is too weak to do the drastic changes they did.
It's over there in China they are almost 95 cleared while the rest of the world will take much much longer to solve. If we keep spreading it how will it clear? How will it clear when we did what we do ? This is only the beginning we need to act how China did it . If not the spread will continue for a very long time.
I personally dont think we will clear as fast as China because we wont take the necessary steps to contain this virus.
We need to shut down Canada we need to not go out we need to keep our border sealed until this is over.
Sent from my SM-G960W using Tapatalk
Fishfood we are in this for a long time to come. Cases are multiplying far higher then the numbers posted because the majority of sick people are being refused testing, and many people are still living normal going to work running errands visiting family and friends. If we knew the real numbers of infected it was cause widespread panic and possible chaos. We haven't seen anything yet, wait until our healthcare system becomes overloaded, that's when the death count will rise.
It's the only way it's going to work
You watch a see China will be back to work and business as usual. They will be booming while the rest will try and fight this battle that can't be controlled. It cant be controlled or contained so how are we going to fix it. ? Remember this is just the beginning and it is almost over in China. How can they be Finnished when the rest of the world is just starting.
If drastic changes are not made there is no chance of stopping it.
The virus lives for days on objects its highly contagious and many dont get many symptoms. So when will it end?
If we continue to stay open we will continue to spread. Sorry but I would rather be locked down in my house for a month then continue the slow ruit for the next 3 months or more.
If we locked down last week just saying.
We wouldn't be seeing the numbers we are now by next week the dropping by the week after we would be all cleared. Keep the borders closed and only essential goods can leave Canada. The risks would remain very low as it only be delivery drivers crossing the boarder. That being said they can easily be tracked and tested for any symptoms or virus.
Imagine that if had taken the rout China did last week we would have 0 cases in Canada in 2 weeks. But in return we will take the long road and try and slow it down. Slowing Downs the invisible virus or catching the invisible virus can't be done.
So either step up or continue the slow rd, that more than likely wont break the cycle.

Sure. Do they have toilet paper?
Also the dramatic impact of financial losses are going to be higher the longer it keeps going. There is still time if shut down this moment next month its business as usual for Canada. Restaurants could open again. Golf courses will open weddings and other events can continue. Want to see a concert no problem only Canadian singers only. Casinos can open
Slow the spread these businesses will be out for months. Eliminate the virus fast and life goes on without the suffering of companies for months. .
Pick one
A slow economy loss that keeps businesses closed for months or a speedy lockdown recovery. I can almost guarantee you a bigger loss over a longer period.
By professional researchers "end quote "
"We could be like this for more than 1 year"
Can you see yourself doing this , this fall still before the next flu season as the virus only gets stronger? When scientist say that this is possible to last a year. Then what that's what they are saying. Sars was over a year to contain this is worse.

Use a warm cloth wash it when your done
Who needs toilet paper. We used it on our oldest it was the norm.
I used cloth diapers when I was little one
It's what my mom used on me some times
We are not going to die without toilet paper. People are already making their own and improvising with what they have.
People are already cant buy paper to use.
Simple solutions to fix that problem. You dont need to live with toilet paper.

Sure glad I’m not a vegetarian
Trimmer.
I think both Spain and Italy, if your caught outside without permital papers. Your in trouble.
For the most part, I think residents are embracing it. Again, a difference in our societies.
Spain, seems that people are still going out, but very limited numbers.
Italy is like a war zone. Army and police everywhere ... if you are outside, even for a walk, you are going to be questioned. You are not allowed to be within 2m of other people. From one person I heard they can walk, if they need the exercise, but from another person I heard that you can be fined. I think there is some confusion in Italy about what is and not allowed to do, but for sure they all agree the soldiers will question you ... you definitely can't just go outside without any good reason.
Here's the response from my friend in Spain, so it seems it's not as tightly controlled as Italy right now.
"I just went to the supermarket and everybody is wearing masks and globes
The feeling is weird
We are still joking at the supermarket as always
Well in this part of Spain we are pretty easygoing, pure mediterranean style"
Now their warning not to be flushing disinfectant wipes there plugging up city sewer and over loading treatment plants
Stores will be limiting customers to bigger stores.
Sobeys announced it will be putting up plastic shields to protect the workers at the check out. And mandatory hand cleaning every 15 minutes.
I was just in for smokes limits of 2 people in the store at any time.
Schools will be canceling for the remaining part of the year. Online programs are being rolled out to keep the kids learning ford says.
And many more restrictions coming guess its better to slowly ready the people for a complete shutdown lol.
Just keep spending billions to prevent and slow the spread. They wouldn't want to fix the problem. [emoji1787][emoji1282]

As for the stats, I haven't seen a link to this site posted here yet, seems to be a bit ahead of news reports for numbers. Check out the USA stats. Nearly 5000 new cases in one day. Just behind Iran now.
Italy... over 600 deaths in one day.

The United states is almost 19 thousand cases and 232 dead.
They are on track to take the top spots and be the new epicenter in the next week.
Italy 47 thousand cases
Just over 4000 dead
China at 80 thousand cases and 3200 dead . Only reason Chinas death toll is so low is they acted fast ,they got things done and made room for many thousands of people.

I find it always a little a head aswell but it's more accurate as they update more than the government site. The government site is lucky if it has 2 updates a day . It is information before 9 am in the morning as it is updated every morning.
The youtube link updates alot more as the numbers climb.

As stated earlier. We can’t really “trust” US numbers. Their testing is way, way behind. For all we know, for all anyone knows there’s 200,000 of them that have been positive for days. Spreading it around.
The spike today, is likely a result of testing starting to get up to speed. It’s still far behind thiugh
Lined up outside EB games in toronto for the newest game atleast they will self isolate in moms basement after they get the game
Maybe we can trust their numbers trump took the test and said they will test all Americans for free.
Our pm refused to take the test and said they need them for the travelers and the elderly. Or people who need it done.
Japan's numbers have only gone up slightly since the beginning. Some
Think its because they are just not testing enough Japan has just over a thousand cases and 35 deaths I believe.
We are not testing enough in Canada our numbers are low .

Since the number of test kits is about explode, so will the number of confirmed cases. Not so much because the number of infected people is exploding, but because the labs will be working as fast as possible to process the current back log of untested cases.
The numbers will jump exponentially in the next couple weeks, and that will throw the statistics way out of wack.
Td banks closing for time being

I said 500 by the weekend ..... I missed... 1087 cases and 12 deaths..... looks like they reorganize the page and I don't see the number that were travellers displayed anymore.... it was still in the 60% range around 600 cases if I recall right...
https://www.canada.ca/en/public-heal...infection.html
Way too little, way too late and too many lies from the Libs.... as usual. Incompetence! Given the number of cases with out symptoms, the young that seem to show few if any symptoms etc. we can safely say the number is a minimum of double that if not 5 or 10 times.... places like Ubereats and DoorDash have contact free deliveries and there are online orders available from many stores (don't expect next day.... maybe next week delivery from places like Metro. in my area the delivery slots open are for March 29+)... the supply chains are stretched but still running, it means YOU PLAN, a few extra essentials and planning, the gov't lost it's chance to plan... and did nothing until too late.... think essentials, then nice to haves for 2 weeks or a month.... only idiots bought 10+ package of toilet paper (leaving none for others) .... in the past I admit having bought 4 or 6 packs of toilet paper.... WHEN IT WAS ON 60% OFF ... people need to think! fear and panic make things worse and usually much worse for those that need it!
This thread started almost 2 months ago... and even a few weeks ago prep and planning the gov't could have slowed it.... the barn door is open, the horses gone, the barn is burning and the rats are running and spreading fleas (to use old blubonic analogies...) media hype has given us toilet paper hoarding and no trust of the gov'ts competence or even the communication of plans that show an IQ above the ability to take a selfies... so for the immediate time... plan, think and unless it is absolutely essential...
Stay at home....

Canada is now 1280 (193 new so far today) and 18 deaths (6 new today).
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/
Italy up 6500+ and US up 4759
300,000+ cases and 12,984 deaths.
North Korea is a closed box, a minimum of 250,000 in labour camps.... a few COVID-19 cases going missing, no one would know. They say you didn't smile or cry when you should off you go... if they say you don't have COVID-19... you don't have it. Russia has 53 new cases today though

The Toronto doctor has a very stern message but will anyone listen?..
We are Canadians and most go on their daily lives. We do what we want to and that's it. Still the same old out and about there, until the government orders a complete shutdown many people will just do as they do.
This is something we have never seen before this is history and hope it only plays out once in my lifetime. This could be the top of the viruses in the past century.
But the reality is many just think it's a bunch of hype over blown by media. It's just the flu oh well, to many .
Only one way to stop this and I'm sorry to say it but until we have a complete shutdown this is hear for a while. The way it spreads the way it moves we are in trouble.
We are doing our part and been keeping at home for the most part . Allot more than we are used to for sure its really hard. People are going to go stir crazy for sure but the outcome is better if we all just stayed inside.
So maybe next week the government will shut down the country so we fix the problem. It's not going to fix if people are still out and about working and doing the things they do every day.

Anyone here have that bad cold/flu back in November-Jan that was making its rounds?
I was 2 weeks with severe bad cough. Every night I'd wake up in a coughing fit. I know lots of people that had it, My foreman lost 30lbs and was always tired from it. It really drained me as well and I'm under 35yrs old.
I wonder what it was, It was wide spread, I had no head cold symptoms like congestion/running nose. Just straight up harsh dry cough that I couldn't shake.
I'm wondering now if this was this virus. I mean there was no testing for it then, It was like pneumonia in a sense that I had fluid in my lungs as laying down made the cough worse.
Sent from my SM-G960W using Tapatalk
Lots of people are wondering the same thing SongDog, I wonder if there is or will be soon a test to know if you have already have had it,
Two of us in a house of four are showing a few of the symptoms but not all, and no fevers....so might these be the mild cases ? Who knows
Songdog
Yes a few members including myself.
Still haven't fully recovered in the lung department lol. Also a friend who had the same thing has confirmed lung damage from the same thing at the same time. He is not a smoker he is actually off work now because of it just the other day he was back at the doctor's and they told him to stay home from work for now
When I was talking to my brother the other day his better halfs family had the same issue the entire family was completely ruined by a bad flu . My brother noted that he had little symptoms but has noticed his lungs are also not the same since. They had it in January.
Who knows some say it was definitely not but it was something big. I was totally wiped at first ice and didnt even care for it and I love my first ice. I start walking on the ice when there just half inch to an inch just to see what I can walk on lol. Have fished many years with 2 inch of ice. Have to know before you go . I check out the ice daily just waiting for that first day.
Not this year I could of cared less I had no energy even was i the hospital after 2 weeks of it getting worse. But the antibiotics worked. So people are saying it was not to the fact the antibiotics worked.
But who knows
Sent from my SM-G960W using Tapatalk
Epidemiologists know.
Just heard the Governor of New York say they can test for antibodies in your system that your body has developed to fight this virus. They say if you have this antibody then you most likely had the virus already. Good chance you wont get it again. I'm really curious to know if I had it but I havnt been to a hospital in 10+ years and sure as hell arent going to start going now!

A couple buddies have had the chest thing back in January. Drs said it was a chest infection. They were put on steroid puffers. Who knows, might have been this flu....there were no other tests other than chest X-rays....they still aren’t over it...
My daughter and I had it a month and a half ago. When you compare the symptoms we had it was 9/9 with the main coronavirus symptoms.
Never know.

Guess we can't really claim people eating bats, (aka. Ozzy O. ) in China caused it then. Reported by China to WHO as a communicable virus on Dec. 31st. So say it started a few weeks before that, ( you know that would be questionable, 'China',), if you had 'something' in Dec. you started getting sick, around the same time as China did.
I wonder how many of the tests are false positives? I had a bad blast of something that buggered up last season Deer hunt for a week that sure looked like what we're hearing about, now. I really wonder if folks have had COVID-19 and just don't know it.
Nothing about all of this makes sense.
The numbers being reported aren't even accurate and probably never will be.
I believe my 6 year old had this in early Jan. Two weeks of severe flu symptoms. Doctors told me to just have him stay home and rest.
Here are numbers that make sense. It will be interesting to see in a years time if the covid-19 actually made a difference or the people that died were destined anyway.
Canadians already face deadly coronaviruses — routinely — with little anxiety or fear. The flu, short for influenza, causes about 12,200 hospitalizations and 3,500 deaths in Canada each year, according to the Canadian government. Influenza and pneumonia are ranked among the top 10 leading causes of death in Canada. Worldwide, seasonal flu causes an estimated 250,000 to 500,000 deaths annually.

Not even close when you include the 20th century. The Spanish flu killed off 50 million at the end of the 1st world war. Probably transmitted by soldiers going home after the end of the conflict. That's more casualties than all the wars in modern history combined.
I see conservation areas are being closed
You have to wonder why but I suppose there’s a lot of stupid ppl that could get hurt and cause more grief than it worth

You have to remember back then it was way easier to die. The technology today is 100 x better. Most died in there homes it's not like that today . And could be the equivalent of the Spanish flu. Your odds of living are way better today than way back then.

Well.... this thread started January 23 and I asked if it will change your behaviour....
obvious answer is yes! More than I could have imagined! Canada has about 1,500 CONFIRMED cases and 20 deaths so far, the drop of the stock market ... oh man if I knew then I would have sold everything.... big losses, then throw in the new terms, people going into isolation, the utter incompetence of our federal gov't and disregard for public safety and more lies, the Sportsman show and events cancelled, toilet paper hoarders emerged, just how contagious this virus really is was unknown ...... two months and things have changed!! .... and there are 3" of fresh snow.... that may not have changed much I guess in two months... 2 more months.... more changes... and hopefully no more snow then!
How did coronavirus get on Canadian soil from a traveller
Why are we sending 3 planes to Peru some time this week to pick up Canadians
Hello
I thought they were suppose to screen anyone boarding an international flight/plane before coming into Canada.... Not so sure this is happening because if it was/is, how does someone land in Canada on Saturday and die of COVID-19 the next day.... I mean they arrive on Saturday March 21st then goes to the hospital with symptoms, then dies the next day, Sunday March 22nd from COVID-19 .....
Safe guards don't seem to be working all that great...Something went/is wrong.
https://www.guelphtoday.com/coronavi...ission-2189397
Actually we went over 2,000 today and 3 new deaths.... 565 new cases....

I don't think I've done as much reading over the past week as I have ever done. Came across an article today regarding testing " Deadly virus outbreaks are controlled when people know their status. Knowledge impacts behavior." So stop lying, tell it like it is, and do what they are asking everyone to do...
That first article you post here is from January 28. Before you lean on that any further, call the author and see if they feel the same way.
The second link is good, I suppose, if you want to be informed about influenza. Which is good, I guess. But you trailed off saying how many estimated deaths occur worldwide, citing 250000 to 500000 deaths annually. This is a shocking number, by itself, which was actually increased to 290000-650000 in 2017.
Lets look at just the States for their numbers.
These are the CDC stats for this current influenza season.
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden...-estimates.htm
If you take the lowest possible number of infections at 38million, and the highest amount of fatalities at 59000, you get a fatality rate of 0.16%
Here is the link with an overview from 2010-present.
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/index.html
The first number represents cases, the second number represents deaths and finally the percentage of fatality.
2010-11: 21Million/37000= 0.18%fatality
11-12: 9.3Million/12000= 0.13
12-13: 34Million/43000= 0.13
13-14: 30Million/38000= 0.13
14-15: 30Million/51000= 0.17
15-16: 24Million/23000= 0.1
16-17: 29Million/38000= 0.13
17-18: 45Million/61000= 0.14
The data is very limited, obviously, for the Covid-19 virus. But we can again look at the numbers Stateside so that its a level playing field.
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/
At this moment, there are 42443 cases of Covid-19 and 517 deaths for a fatality rate of 1.22%.
Even if you skew the numbers to be as favourable as they could possibly be for this flu vs Covid argument... Take the LEAST amount of infections over the 10yr period (9.3Million) and apply the HIGHEST amount of casualties (61000), you would still end up with a fatality rate of 0.66%. Again, this last equation is completely made up and does not apply.
Sorry for the rant, I took my layoff today and one of the things I heard most often on site was that "its just a flu...kills more people every year..."
Screening is no guarantee ... not even close. People have been walking around for 5 days with NO symptoms ... at all ... so they are busy spreading it, and it's impossible to detect physically, oh ... and the hospitals won't test them either, because unless you are pretty much showing full fledged symptoms they will not test, because of the backlog.
News said 60,000 Canadians returned last week and over next few days
Italy has finally peaked yesterday was the second day with dropping numbers. Yesterday second day dropping in numbers still resulted in like 770 deaths. Today they are just under 700 dead. Let's hope these numbers keep dropping they have been in lock down for weeks. They also have 5000 plus new cases
Today 10 more canadians have died from covid 19
By Thursday the USA will have more confirmed cases than China.

Why did Quebec have such a spike in cases snowbirds returned ?
Likely and I think I read something about their testing.
I wish I could “share” one FB friends charts. He’s a numbers geek. I won’t bore with details of his algorithms. Will just say the exponential trend line for the US looks scary. Italy is now on a linear trend.
NY is just insane. Aside from health issues in the US that might skew numbers. I can’t help but wonder how many people won’t seek treatment
Same will happen in muskoka and other cottage country towns. Many retirees that head south for the winter. They are home early this year with snow on the ground still.
Oh and Quebec has added its presumably cases as the the total of cases that's what I heard .
Sent from my SM-G960W using Tapatalk
This is correct. Prior to Monday Quebec was requiring confirmation of presumptive positives before adding them. The result was a backlog of test results that needed confirmation. They looked at all the previous confirmed cases and discovered that every test that came in presumptive positive was eventually positively confirmed - decided there is no point waiting on the confirmations and presumptive positives are now just added as positive.
Thousands,if not hundreds of thousands who can't afford health insurance and have no employer-based group medical. A two-week stay in a US hospital can set someone back $50-$100K. Once the "shelter-in-place" and "self isolation" is lifted,I wouldn't be surprised,in the least, they'll start to find people who have passed away at home and alone, not to mention the millions of homeless who were sick and undiscovered.
Wifey was talking to one of our neighbors who moved here from China a decade ago. She said in her home town back around when the virus broke out, her town went into a total lockdown immediately. All people were enforced to stay in their home buildings. A select group of people were used to deliver food that was set in the lobbies of buildings and residents were allowed to come to get their groceries and back to their units. She said it lasted for 2 months. They were successful at stopping the spread. Pretty sad to think they could stop the spread in 2 months, where will we be in 2 months..
American government officials inside Donald Trump’s White House are actively discussing putting troops near the Canadian borders in light of U.S. border security concerns around the coronavirus pandemic, sources tell Global News.
Few people cross from Canada into the United States at an unofficial point each year but the goal of the policy would be to help border guards detect irregular crossers, the sources said.
While the White House is pushing for this, no decision has been made. It’s not clear if Canadian officials have been officially briefed but informal conversations are ongoing.
And and soon as they thought they were cleared new cases started to appear. Last seen before they updated Canada today they had 64 new cases. Its growing slowly but has been on the rise.
Heard from a doctor in the news that we will be over 10 thousand cases by April 9th ...
The warm weather we need to break the virus is still 2 months away. Other reports from a science teacher says we can expect to socially distance for the next 12 to 18 months.
Did another run to grocery store and man was it a mess still many empty shelves. Lines to back of the store only every other cash is open to keep the distance. Tape on the floors to keep people spaced ,many people wearing gloves and masks . started to stock up for Easter lol. Still see no signs of people out and about slowing down.
We are stocked up for a bit now and wont need to go out till next week lol.
People need to learn how to use a garbage can. I see many gloves and masked littered all over the place . Instead of the all the take out garbage it's all gloves and masks all over the place . [emoji107]

FF, Another case of do as I say, not as I do?
Considering China's population, they have done wonders controlling the spread.
If we need to social distance for 12-18months, maybe it's because our governments fear we can't stop the spread and the 12-18months is when they hope to have a vaccine available? I cant imagine much of the country being off work for that amount of time without chaos starting to erupt. Something has to give in that amount of time with so much uncertainty.
Now I hear Tim Hortons is shutting down (I may stand to be corrected if I heard wrong) ,I guess its non-essential. But alcohol and weed is essential?...
Alcohol is essential yes.......do you have any idea what happens to alcoholics when they cant get their alcohol? They end up in the hospital fighting for their lives. Weed on the other hand.........
We need to feel sorry for our alcoholics?...lol. I couldn't care less if someone decides to ruin themselves with alcoholism, that's their choice and nobody else's. If the hospital's are full send them home to dry out, death is rare from withdrawl, not common like other symptoms. Alcoholics get not one ounce of sympathy from this guy...
Timmies on the res closing till the 9 th
Best coffee around
I ordered from Fortinoes the other day, they offered a 5 hour delivery, it showed they would deliver on Sunday though, it is a bit more expensive for delivery than some but the food was actually delivered in about 3 hours, missing several items and some switch for alternatives I picked but I wasn't charged for the unavailable items so it was OK, MAKE SURE to pick alternative choices and maybe a variety or you may end up with no bread at all and they didn't have my hazzlenut coffee almond milk ... instead of about 2 weeks worth of coffee milk I got 1 bottle (maybe 3 days) of another company... and keep an eye on the best before dates!! I got myself a dark chocolate hazzlenut bar as a treat and its best before date was in January!
Metro I ordered a week ago... they deliver Tuesday next week.... depending on need .... you may have to look at options.
*** NOTE for those with immune compromised people at home, there is a video to watch on the another thread!!
488 more cases today and we are at 37 deaths so far....
Alcoholics have addiction problems true but there are lots of help and options, they should get help if they want it.
As for weed, we already know tobacco smokers have many times the fatalities of non-smokers so they likely have brought problems on themselves too... other than real medical issues, well ... dope fits!

Timmies are convenient and indiscernible from each other is their only appeal as far as coffee goes, not much appeal to me unless it is a hot day and then there is the frozen cap or better yet the frozen lemonades!
Did my groceries this morning. Ran out of coffee filters 1 day early.:)
3 weeks ago, we could place an order online, pick it up in the afternoon. Theres a 1 week lead now.
LCBO, Alcoholics.
They buy mickeys as a form of self policing. As such they are daily, bi-daily regulars. Theres also a school of thought, they would flood hospitals.......Do we need that?
But, because the canabis stores are open, Im more inclined it's simply to keep tax revenue flowing. And frankly I'm ok with that. No-body twisting anyones arm to go shopping for non-essentials. If they ( anyone) wants to ante up and help offset the massive bills we're facing such as the deficit more than doubling, a 3.3 billion projected Covid health bill............
That's why a french press is nice, I also have the fill your own for the Keurig. You can also make cold brewed in the French press. In the morning press out the day befores, clean, refill, have my coffee and the next morning repeat.
As I mentioned, the Fortinos SAID the date was 5 days later but they still delivered in the 5 hour window.... bags were all wrapped tight, driver had a mask and gloves, missing several items (I got text messages saying so) and the chocolate bar was best before January 2020 ... well they ain't prefetc !! Metro from the day I ordered to the delivery date was 8 days and isn't until Tuesday.... we will see how they do!
*Note: Fortinos "Mandarin Clementine" came as the Orri oranges, they are real good, stay better longer and warning, if your family is like mine order atleast 20! ... the order was yesterday and last I looked there were only 3 or 4 left of the 12 I ordered!
lol.
"filters". I went back to them from my Keurig couple years ago.Biodegrable. And while we don't have "green bins" here, the composter normally. I am on a septic. Coffee grounds that inadvently make their way down the drain.....Man, old habits die hard. :)
I use these,
https://www.keurig.com/Accessories/M...ersal-my-k-cup
I empty them into the compost bucket then wash them. There is a "powder" (BIO-Clean) with bacteria we use at the cottage and at home in the kitchen sink to help break up organics (grease, coffee...). At home I put some in the drain at night once a week or so and it seems to help keep it clean. Coffee grains are a pain in the sink lines and a plumber recommended it and it seems to work. Keurig is for when I am in a rush, the French Press takes longer (unless I made the cold brewed the day before) but has more flavour I find.
and back on topic ...

Try to explain that to so many people that are laidoff and not working because they are not deemed essential, while the alcoholics and drug users stores are open and employees still get to work and don't loose anything.

Sadly the masses have proven we weren’t up to it. Lots of images of parties on beaches, zoos at Costco, ad naseum.
Lots of prices to be paid, by lots.
This is blown out of proportion - alcoholics do not take up valuable ICE beds. Alcoholics going through withdrawal 'might' need to be admitted, and if so they are only in emerg if they are at risk of having a seizure - they can be fatal. The withdrawal process is a painful process for them (sweats, shakes, and in rare cases delusional behavior) but rarely fatal with the exception of the most severe cases. Typically a hospital stay lasts 6-7 hrs so that they can monitor the patient to make sure they do not go into seizures and then they are discharged.
Once the alcohol is out of their system a shortage of booze would be a blessing for them.
Ouch.... unless you have friends close by it looks like you are stuck with a long wait or ...

Look if anyone wants to work, I am sure we can find them a truck. But before they all jump at these jobs, better listen to the terms of deal.
1) Once you leave the house, you DO NOT get to go home till this whole thing is over. Even if this goes on for a year or more.
2) You will have no place to eat except in your truck. The food will be cold and greasy, unless you live off dried noodles and sandwiches.
3) If you get sick, well best of luck.
4) If you happen to die, the only way your going home is as a bag of ashes.
No funeral, no consideration of religion.
In the furnace, in a bag and your last ride will be a FEDEX truck.
How many trucks can I fill.
Wednesday’s cases bring the total to five in the London and Middlesex County and 14 across Southwestern Ontario.
The London-Middlesex case comes a day after local health officials announced two people had tested positive for COVID-19.
One is a female health-care worker in her 20s who works at University Hospital. She had recently travelled to Las Vegas and went to work while showing symptoms.
The second case is an assistant Crown attorney in her 40s who recently travelled to Sint Maarten. This case forced the closure of the London courthouse Tuesday for a “thorough cleaning” of the building.

Join the club, I go to work everyday as well. Lucky me I get to bring this virus home everyday to the rest of my family while they are at home doing as they should. Same here if I die or a family member, oh well that's me and my family's problem. Profits seem to be the deciding factor when it comes to being deemed an essential service. Insane to me booze and drugs are essential, but cloths and coffee is non-essential ?..
Exactly Canadaman.
I was pleasantly surprised yesterday when a radio station on air personality thanked those, specifically the gas station attendant, and grocery store peon,, most forget about that are risking it just as much. More actually.
Because they are risking it for peanuts. The kids, the spouses, won’t give a damn who, how, or why.
In an uncharacteristic move I called the station, spoke to the DJ and thanked him.
Anywho, there’s an odd undercurrent to all this. This is, like SARS and like 2008. At the same time. The eternal fight between Left wing ideology and right wing ideology.
Maybe, just maybe, when it’s all said and done. Hundreds or thousands dead, more ruined financially.
People will wake up, and realize we need both, neither is more/less important. Neither is more/less deserving of attention by politicians. Etc etc.
Who am I kidding. Feck me, I’m sounding like JT from the heart out. Won’t happen.
I don’t think JBen is insulting them, but he is rightly pointing out that many of the people that are keeping services running for the rest of us are on the lower end of the pay scale. Clerks, cashiers, gas station attendants, etc
Those that can’t work from home and don’t make a lot anyway.
It’s sarcasm Rick. Jesus H
and fact you can’t figure that out...can’t pick up on that.
also says a lot about....
I think we were both typing. Just saw your next comment.
It is all good Rick.
I use that word, have long used that word, the sarcasm, to “shock” people into realizing that theres some truth/merit to it.
I guess in the same way, many are sharing heart wrenching videos of people, young and old on ventilators etc.
It’s a cold bucket of ice water
The Tim's closing down was fake news.
Tim Horton's will continue business as usual drive through only.

I don't think you can shock anyone nowadays. The first mass shootings in the states were shocking. Now they don't even make the news.
Having the BEER stores open has more to do with keeping morale up then anything else.
My "freedom" to move across the Canada/US border is not that great of a thing. It comes at a cost, I can't go home.
I could use some more pants, socks and underwear. Guess I will have to order on line and have it shipped to the terminal.
Drivers of the Jewish and Muslim faiths are not feeling good about the "mandatory" cremation rules.
They can choose to stay home if they don't feel safe or are not being provided the proper PPE......They are probably more protected (taking more PPE precautions) then your average grocery store clerk... just saying
I am just trying to look at the bigger picture.....
Hopefully we will see the curve reduced soon.
Stores should start doing like my veterinarian
Phone in your order pay with plastic
Drive to store call say your out front. Pop the trunk they put your order in and shut trunk
Drive off
No human to human contact if it’s a non perishable leave in your trunk for a day
A lot of truth to that Sawbill :(
Put all the usual L/R stuff aside for a moment.
The US seems to be a train wreck in slow motion. They have now surpassed China and China has 1 billion more people. We can't trust their numbers because they ( like most, including us ) aren't testing everyone. So it could be far, far worse....And theres no way to know, and we might not, until all the dust has settled. How many won't seek treatment. A few, some, thousands and thousands?
And......
Sadly even PPE being used by many is not great. Italy has thousands of nurses and doctors infected, many have died. Many frontline medical workers are being infected even with protective measures. The way we are dealing with this virus the curve is far away, just look at the numbers, we are just starting to see the rise in numbers. Another month will be an awakening for North Americans as well as other countries. I do the same looking at the big picture, but the numbers speak the truth and they are not promising as each day passes. Our PM is telling people enough is enough, stay home to flatten the curve, but it's only a small group of the population that are staying home because most are still going to work everyday. How does a society comply with a government that focuses more on greed/money than public safety. Hate to say it but China seems to be setting the example of what measures to take when it comes to saving lives and controlling a pandemic
Def; of Peon
1.
a Spanish-American day laborer or unskilled farm worker.
2.
(in South and Southeast Asia) a low-ranking soldier or worker
Is the word peon offensive?
In this sense, peon is often used in either a derogatory or self-effacing context. American English: in a historical and legal sense, peon generally referred to someone working in an unfree labor system (known as peonage). The word often implied debt bondage and/or indentured servitude.
Don't disagree with you about China taking whatever steps necessary on their end to stop the spread. Unfortunately that will never happen here and especially in the USA. Trump wants this all wrapped up by Easter and wants low risk county's to carry on as usual. You can't just shut down a powerhouse like the USA......they are not wired to be able to do that.
Well said
The curve when will that be ? When in the curve do we open things back up? Open jobs be social?
Italy acted a little to late many parts been on total lock down for weeks they have just past the curve or at the top of it.
I also have a feeling our curve is still a month away maybe more who knows . Still only going to get worse the next few weeks.
Toronto transit systems are still packed. They put a notice saying if you are uncomfortable with the amount of riders on a particular vehicle then take the next one lol. China town still open market selling many non essential items.
Is our garden stores essential?
The one I visit opens around in the first week of April ,haven't been around that area lately .. They are fruit market and sell alot of fresh produce.
I have plenty of seeds from over the years but I always buy the tomatoes and peppers already started.

Time to lock travel down
Fishfood, totally agree the USA needs to do more. Many lives will be lost both here and down south for not taking actions sooner.
I forgot to mention they brought in big transport refrigerator trucks to stack the dead from the hospitals. This was in new York.

Watch "Coronavirus Florida: Lake Worth Beach city commission meeting turns ugly" on YouTube

And you can see how that came to be....

I mean
province to province
State to state
Other than trucks moving necessities
Maybe even no travel from major cities
Keep the hot spots in areas not letting move thru country
Canada absolutely does not want the United states military near our boarder. The Canadian government keeps saying it will hurt us and its beneficial to keep the border unsecured? Why is that? Drugs cant be smuggled? Guns and other weapons? Bad for the illegal immigrants ??
What's it going to hurt to have it secured for a bit ?

As New York State continues to see a rise in cases of the novel coronavirus and is the epicenter of the pandemic in the United States, clinical trials for drug treatments began on Tuesday in the state.
The state acquired 70,000 doses of hydroxychloroquine, 10,000 doses of zithromax and 750,000 doses of chloroquine in the last few days, according to a news release by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office.
"We hope for optimistic results," Cuomo said during a press conference Tuesday, talking about the clinical trials. "The president and the FDA accelerated that drug coming to New York so the hospitals will start using that drug today."
Let’s hope it works
