“Mark Norman is a personal hero of mine,” General Rick Hillier said over the weekend at the Manning Conference in Ottawa. “I would stand by him anytime.”

It all says a lot.

That Hillier, the retired general and former Chief of the Defence Staff, would say this in the first place. That foreign policy expert Shuvaloy Majumdar, who was leading the Q&A, would choose to make this the first issue he put to Hillier on stage. And that, when I posted these words to social media, they took off like wildfire.

People have a lot to say about the Vice Admiral Mark Norman case. And public interest is only growing.

The saga, in a nutshell, is that in late 2015 a media report revealed the leaked news that the new Liberal government was planning to back away from a deal for a supply ship with Davie Shipbuilding that was almost complete.

Norman, the head of the navy at the time, was first suspended without explanation in January 2017. More than a year later he was charged with one count of breach of trust for allegedly leaking the news of the deal.

The military determined it would not assist with Norman’s legal bills even though other individuals have qualified for support in the past.

As more people become aware of the facts of the case, the outrage across the country grows. Why is Norman facing what’s believed to be the first ever charge related to leaking to the media when we know such leaks happen all of the time? Why was a senior military figure left suspended without explanation for a year? Why are they sticking him with the full bill?

Like the original Bill C-68, the current Bill seeks to take away the rights of private property owners. It reverses the changes our Conservative government brought in when we amended the so-called “Harmful Alteration Disruption or Destruction” of fish habitat (the HADD provision) in the Federal Fisheries Act.

The plot thickens. SNC-Lavalin might be small potatoes compared to this. Now,I wonder why the media isn't all over this (besides the Sun)?

If the Norman case hits the courts before the election the liberals could get kicked to the wilderness like they did with ADSCAM. Scott Brison will no doubt be the one to explain most of this pending scandal, now that he’s jumped ship like a rat.

Let's face it the general public mostly doesn't care about this issue except those who have served.
Those with political motives will use it if they think it will help them.
Both the PC's and Liberals have shown they are willing to treat the military with little respect until it suits them.

The federal government is defending its refusal to disclose the contents of a 60-page memo the country’s top bureaucrat sent to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau about Vice-Admiral Mark Norman.
In a statement Friday, the Department of Justice said the memo sent by Michael Wernick, clerk of the Privy Council, to Trudeau last October was completely blacked out by government lawyers.

Norman has denied any wrongdoing and his politically charged trial is scheduled to start in August and run through much of the fall federal election.

Norman’s legal team has been fighting since October for access to thousands of internal government documents they say will prove the suspended military officer’s innocence and show that the government interfered in his case.

Subpoenas were issued last month for internal communications from senior officials in the Prime Minister’s Office and the Privy Council Office about the case, including emails, BlackBerry messages and other records.

Former star candidate and now outgoing Liberal MP Andrew Leslie is on the witness list to testify if called, against the government on behalf of suspended Vice-Admiral Mark Norman in the high-profile case about the alleged leak of cabinet documents, CTV News has learned.

Leslie, who represents the Ottawa riding of Orleans and was previously a lieutenant-general in Canadian military, would not comment. But sources tell CTV News that he informed the Prime Minister's Office more than a year ago that he would testify on behalf of Norman. Sources confirm that he is listed on the defence witness list.

DPP Prosecutor has materials come to light which would prevent any chance of conviction......

It was announced yesterday that all his legal fees are being covered by the Fed. Gov. and I believe he is being reinstated to his former job.

I watched the full 32 minute press conference held my him and Marie H last night. Very informative and something everyone who has followed this case should watch.

First thing out of her mouth was throwing Trudope under the bus haha, when introducing the legal team she said “Good thing Norman didn’t fire all the women he hired”,

She’s a tigress, so impressive.

The opposition will NOT let that matter rest in Parliament. Erin O'Toole was hammering them,relentlessly,this morning. All the Justice Minister and the Defense Minister could do was obfuscate and deflect. It will definitely be a huge election issue.

It should be but the public seems to have a very short memory when it comes to this stuff.. That's why I can't see the logic behind all the PC's anti lib ads that are running right now.

I agree, but the Cons have to show they're on top of these issues, as it happens. The dust will eventually settle and then hopefully the dirt will be dug up again, in time to remind the public what the liberals are really about?
It's becoming more and more like a circus each day the libs are in power.

I'm just concerned that people who vote just to say they voted without actually getting into the real issues or don't follow a partys day to day shenanigans will become tired of hearing about the SNC lavolin controversy or the Norman case. Hope I'm wrong but I think they're the bulk of the voting public.

There should be a test to qualify to vote?
It's really pathetic to hear people comment in the coffee shop or several of my neighbour's, on how badly they are unaware of the currents issues?
I'm 63. I really shouldn't get this hyped up about it since I don't have any children that will be affected by the nonsense of the liberals. What happens in this countries future should be a moot point? But the bottom line is I can't stand the liberal party and what their philosophy is?

Trudough has changed the election laws so that all you need is a voter card. They can vote without photo ID or while wearing a Niqab. He lets them walk right into the country, puts them up in hotels, their kids go to school in Toronto and everything is on the house, dental included. Who do you think they will vote for? Funny thing I'm hearing is that the reason for dropping the case was evidence which came from the Conservative Party. Yes they have been sitting on it all this time & letting Norman swing. But the politics of the case seemed better to let it continue as long as it was hurting the Liberals.

Well, whatever happens in the next few weeks or months its not going to be sunny days for Sonny Daze.

Seems Sonny Daze just can't get ahead. The first item on the news tonight was the settling of the aluminum tariffs with the States which made him look good for about 10 seconds. Then in the very next item it seems info has come forward that Trudeau was complicit in having Norman charged by the RCMP, an involvement he's been denying since day one. The weasel.
