Looks like they are about to boot out the PC's in Alberta. These people are pizzed at the PC party for imposing a bunch of taxes to make up lost oil revenues. But get this, they are going to replace them with the NDP !!!! Isn't that like bringing a keg of beer to an AA meeting?
They spent money like a drunk at the bar for over 30 years with no consideration for a slowdown in the oilfields.
The right might split their vote but the real chance of the ndp governing is very unlikely but it would be amusing to watch from the outside.

Oh taxes will be going up, they have said they would raise corporate taxes, personal taxes and probably add carbon fees etc. but Prentice made Hudak look like a genius! Did anyone see BNN today they had Buzz Hardgrove on there talking about the auto industry jobs leaving Canada...usual, blame gov't, need a committee... and when asked who he would pick to run it one of his choices was McGunity.... and of course he made know that he was available to help any level of gov't..
Lots and lots of people left ontario and quebec to find jobs in alberta....They did not start being conservites when they left.

Prentice was right, Albertan's are to blame... Too much spending, too low taxes and on top of that dependant on an expensive volatile resource, thats near future(10-20yrs) may not be too bright... With renewables surpassing conventional power for the first time in history last year and battery technology moving fast. Expensive oil sands oil will be the first to go, that window is shrinking.
But I don't see how any government can fix that... They definately need some sales tax, living without any is delusional and a fantasy for people who don't know how government works. They have a bigger deficit then us, per capita. Regardless of the government, unless oil goes back over 80$/barrel fast(60$ now), don't see much good happening there anytime soon... Alberta was already predicted to a recession this year at -2% growth compared to our +3%.
Truly shocked how bladly the Torries got pounded, even combined with the Wild Rose, they were still below. NDP majority gonna wake up tommorow and this was all a dream...
I'd disagree with that on a couple of counts. One - people that left Ontario for jobs in Alberta are for the most part from conservative backgrounds. They're looking for good wages and not worrying about hard work. They're not looking for government handouts and government jobs. Two - some of your most conservative Albertans are those from Ontario/Quebec who have seen what poor governments can do to a province, and have left that behind. They don't want Alberta to become the next Quebec/Ontario.Quote:

Last I saw the NDP had 55% popular vote before I turned the TV off. Could have been 55 seats(but even then it was more than double) though and my error or the numbers changed later on. Regardless, it's a pretty big change. Definately a protest vote and a sign of tough times... People are more likely to vote radical change when things are going bad and status quo when things are OK or good.

Hard to say. The floor crossing deal is part of what got the Cons kicked out, so maybe if that hadn't happened, the Cons could have held on. Where you are right though is what she did had the *worst* outcome. Sticking with wild rose would mean she still have a political life left. Even if she hadn't won, she would likely have been in the position of holding the balance of power for a minority government (either NDP or Cons).Quote:

The Conservatives and Reform eventually smartened up and united Federally. My guess is the Cons and WR will do the same out there out of pure survival instinct. Smith is an idiot. I hope this makes the NDP more competitive with the Libs Federally. Having them poach each other's voter base and funding gives a better chance for Harper to slip up the middle.

That politicians aren’t as afraid to hike taxes as they were not long ago.
Sucks to live in Ontario where the tax payers have already been beaten into the ground and its coming. If people want to argue the tax friendly regime out west was either squandered, or that the people relied to heavily on oil ( Um why is it people always forget its the electorate that is responsible, politicians don’t elect policitians…..people do..so for those of chirping that the cons….um, ) and didn’t tax enough,
or cough cough save for a rainey day when they were flush cough cough
Squandering little is better than squandering a 100 billion from an already pummeled tax base..
And with respect to Oil being done and “renewbles” being the future…Don’t bet on it. Ontario did and look what happened

In short Albertans are in a better position to start paying more tax and hence the NDP might not be so scary as they see the need.
Shame Ontarians don’t have the same common sense whens its similiar albeit very different and unfortunately the message that sends to Ms Wynne and MR I can’t act, can’t accomplish anything in life, is go ahead tax us more.

Federally the Conservatives have been the main stay of the Alberta for many years and with the reasonably close time to the next federal election it could be a more difficult time for them in the next federal election.
BTW: The NDP federally are the official opposition not the Liberals.
Agreed and the dynamics are different as well Woodsman. Again Albertans shot themselves in the foot some and as a result it’s a bit of a blow up. Canada is doing pretty good and theres no need, no inferno to put out. No doubt Harper will pay attention to it, but “really”...

True, too many factors to calculate possible outcomes... Because that defection of hers that Prentice initiated made them both look bad. Prentice was ahead in the polls before that and the early election hurt him too. Made them both look bad. Although to be fair the idea was to kill the wild rose by him, similar to Harpers unite the right. Maybe they should have done that? Prentice probably tried to unite them?... In fact he is the real cause of this big loss. And boy did the NDP get lucky to have a majority with not a huge high % popular voteQuote:
