I like to tinker with my lawn.I think i do some things OK ,some just alright, some outright poorly.
Any suggestions for "legal"lawn weed control-being store bought stuff, home made stuff or just lawn maintenance practices.
Appreciate it.

Get a bag of dandelion seed, spread it around and let it do it's magic. Then go fishing for the rest of the summer? You'll thank me later for this sage advice. :D
Scotts Weed B Gone Max.................works for me on Dandelions and Plantain. 4 litre jug with sprayer 40 bucks at Home Depot
I'd have to start by killing off that sea of yellow across the street from me before I can make any headway with my lawn. Its quickly becoming a lost cause trying to stay ahead of some of the jungles in the neighborhood.
I was told a chemical free way to kill dandelions is to let the grass grow long. Basically suffocating the weeds ? I live out in the country and my water source is a well which conveniently was witched to connect with an underground stream hence why I really don't like to use chemicals if possible. Mind you for Wild Rose and Hawthorne and all those other Tee shirt ripping bushes I found Round Up (farm grade) works wonders. I was also told that dandelions are honey bees first food of the year and I delay my cutting as much as possible. My question is that when I do mow why is it the next day those things have popped up above the grass I just mowed ? What ? Did they learn how to duck at the sound of the mower coming ?
Thanx guys-i will try the Scotts stuff.Sounds promising.
I hear You about the neighborhood lack of taking care of the business.I am sort of lucky, have only 1 neighbour ,and the street is not narrow.
Behind me is a park and a baseball diamond. Many years ago i planted cedars as windbreak-seed break towards it.Yet there is still areas, where i just stare at the" yellow magic".
I think i will go max with the lawnmower too(i am one notch below max-so room to adjust)
Cheers
Definitely keep the mower high. Helps the grass keep from getting burned in later months as well. 4 feedings a year with Scott's turf builder. Over seed when the grass is growing well. Weed B Gone works great for dandelions and other broad leaf weeds but by far the best value for the dollar is to buy the concentrate and make up your own batches. 1 litre of concentrate will make you 25 litres of single strength and costs about 38 bucks. Just keep a spray bottle handy to transfer it to.

Thanx GW11.
How would You recommend proper over seeding?I do over seed early Sept.-mow the lawn, some top soil sprinkled 0.5-1"thick on the area i want to over seed. Then use Scotts Sun and Shade seed, raked in. I rotate areas on my lot,so i finish a full a circle about every 3 years.
I am never sure did it worked for me....
Where could i buy concentrate Weed B gone....?
Thank You
Over seeding is one of the best things you can do. It thickens your lawn and helps to control weeds. Fertilizing will also help.
Keep grass high and thicken it up with over seeding, this will choke the weeds. Air rate and put a top dressing of top soil and seed. I always mix a couple of bags of sheep or cow poop with the soil to fertilize it.
You can buy the Weed B Gone concentrate at Home Depot. Over seeding - for the most part I just run the spreader over the entire lawn, spring or fall or both. What you described works well for trouble areas but lightly seed the "gòod" lawn too in order to thicken it up and choke out weeds.
All that being said, sometimes it feels like it's a losing battle...haha!

Thanx guys-appreciate all the help.

Sprinkling 2x a year with seeds seems a hole lot of less work then what i do.....
All that being said, sometimes it feels like it's a losing battle...haha! -I hear You:D:ashamed:
Go talk to any farmers you know
Ask them for a liter of( three way. ) Or (par3)
It gets sprayed right on the grass and kills all the weeds..
Only way go.
Thanx Dutch-once i got some ,a while ago , from a friends old stash..........I am urban, and even thought have no direct neighbors but one,i live in the middle of the city.
The stuff had specific strong smell........... Since my "backyard" is a Baseball diamond, many people come there thru the summer, park in front of my house ,i never dared to use the stuff.
I was just never sure if someone would rat me out...........:silly:
ps-i had bad experience about being ratted out-had a dog many years ago, lived in a super insulated doghouse ,with a large cage for running,in my backyard, fully healthy and taken care of. Because it was outside,i had Humane Society in my house every 2-3 months,(the dog barks, does the dog get enough exercise, does the dog has potable water, is the doghouse suitable for the dog in the winter.........)until i just did not have enough of it,and gave the dog away.
Scott's Weed and Feed with Grub Killer - bought 3 bags of it last spring when I was in Buffalo. On my last bag........seems that it is the only thing that works on grubs.
You can buy it on Amazon.ca - https://www.amazon.ca/Par-Lawn-Weed-.../dp/B07VQNG3MS
With all the help i got from here - i am eradicating dandelions.:D:D:DSome other-to me unknown named broad leaf weeds too.............
Weed B Gone is a way to go!
Thanx to many of You suggesting it!!!
After buying 0.5 l of Weed B Gone CONCENTRATE(newer knew it existed in concentrate form until learning from here-thanx GW11)i mixed it in with 9.5 l water in a 10 l sprayer, and went at it.
My eradication trial proved successful.
Thanx to all once more.
Another proof that being a member here can reap great benefits!!!
Way to go fellow hunters.Support each other as much as we can!CheersAttachment 40387
my lawn is overwhelmed by clover. any ideas on getting rid of it?
JJL-clover could be a good thing. It blends in well with the grass,it gives lots of Nitrogen back to the soil,it crowds out other bigger nastier broad leaf weeds, and they do not look that bad(IMHO)
Just my 2 cents-i would trade all the Dandelion,Crabgrass, other creepy crawly weeds (some i do not even know the name for)for just grass and clover.
Try Weed B Gone concentrate though -i did some damage to my clover, while getting rid of the Dandelions and other weeds...........after all, clover is also broad leaf.
I worked on a golf course when I was a kid. The greens keeper always used a mixture of two gallons of vinegar, two bottles of ordinary dish soap in a 45 gallon sprayer on the back of a tractor to spray greens, approaches and aprons to drive grubs away from them. I still use it on my lawn to this day (scaled back considerably,of course). The place smells like french fries for a day, but,I couldn't care less. The neighbors sure hate it because the grubs migrate to their place. LOL
i appreciate that it could be worse than clover. just looks more like a clover field than a yard at times. dandelions were taken care of. weed b gone i think, would have thought the clover would be toast too. as it is a broad leaf as well. but it doesn't seem to have affected it. or maybe i need to spray again now that clover is taking over?
