Man,that's quite the collection of nobodys, isn't it?
I for one am glad Leslie did not get defense. He was shunned from being CDS for a reason, he is an elitist officer with a false sense of self being, he would have been the downfall of the CAF. Do the research, he too his wife's family name, because it was better aligned with military history. F$#king bull cr@# . I do however have respect with the current Chief of Defense. A Reservist, a Policemen, and a realist.
Essentially the most important portfolio - Transportation - went into good hands.
Garneau is smart, Savvy in several areas of transportation, connected in that industry, and one helluva stand up guy.
Had the Libs made him party leader, I would have considered voting red.
About 80% of the rest of the appointments are jokes and drivel though. This should be an entertaining 4 yrs.
Heavily stacked with GTA Liberals..rewarded?
In the end appointments have never (or rarely) been about merit, so.....Maybe the question people might want to ask JT is why of his 184 seats, only 50 women to begin with.....
.........and every one of them has no experience in their prospective portfolios nor,in one case, been in this country for more than ten years. All these appointments were politically correct choices to show that the Liberal Party under Trudeau is truly "progressive" and to shut up the special interests. It'll be intersting to see what the rest of Canada thinks about cabinet being "made in Toronto".
I agree Mott. Garneau is a good choice for that portfolo but the skeptic in me says that was a reward for him stepping out of the leadership race. Time will tell.
Did you see who is the minister of defense is????
Did anyone read his story, back ground or are we just judging book by their covers? You should see of picture of him in his field dress while in the field, boots on the ground, risking it all.
He has quite a back ground.

Peter Mackay?
I love how they changed the names of some of the cabinets. ... a look at some of the no-names.... Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.... makes me want to gag!

I love them pointing out the old war liberals and even the fact one of them MPs had to leave the Chretien gov't over conflict of interest and how many are old Chretien crowd.
Some of the changes are purely for optics (see the gender quota as one example). Funny how no one in the press (right wing or left wing) is cutting through the BS/spins/propaganda and looking at how many females won seats ( 50 of 184). Or 27% which is exactly how many females were chosen to run (30% of candidates). Why so few JT? If he were truly interested in parity, addressing it..........People are so caught up and gullible, forest for trees.
Let's also completely ignore during this love in about how wonderfully diverse it is, that there are NO blacks or Asians. In fact it's almost all white.
Why JT? To quote you its 2015 after all.
So are they collateral damage pushing a political agenda for votes, or is there something else a foot.?
Some do have nice backgrounds, some sketchy (?). Also isnt it funny that Toronto is rewarded with 7 ministers. Fully 25%. The next nearest is the entire province of Que with 6.
So half of cabinet is surprise surprise.
Toronto and Quebec.
Be that as it may.
One wonders why the media isn't asking the obvious.
I have zero issues with the new defense minister. He knows how difficult it is to order men into situations where they could possibly lose their lives. Hopefully he will be a good advocate for the military and will direct the military well. I hope Trudeau listens to him and benefits from his experience. Although Trudeau has already stated he will not purchase the F-35s but purchase cheaper planes and use the "savings" to increase navy spending. I think this isn't the correct way to go (neither was purchasing all F-35's). I think we need a collaboration of the two. Have one squadron (12 aircraft) of F-35's in Bagotville and another squadron of F-35's in Cold Lake. The rest of the squadrons can be replaced with F-18 Super Hornets. This gives us a very flexible air force with first strike capacity and a lesser learning curve on the Super Hornets. We need jets. Jets are our first responders to any situation. A good navy is important too but interception (both civilian situations and military threats) is much faster with the air force.

On the defense minister.
One area, all gov'ts to date (perhaps none more so than the previous Liberal) where Im hoping for good from him. He is or will be their chief advocate.
Is how badly our veterans are treated. Harper did increase funding, so lets not get too caught up. But there are serious problems with respect to neglect, treatment of PTSD, suicides and more ( I wonder what JT will do with all those he is pulling back).....
Having "been there, done that", walked a mile...I expect some good things from him on that front.
I hope your right. Time will tell for all his cabinet.
The defense minister looks like a great choice .
http://www.vancouversun.com/cms/binary/11493088.jpg
Not just another Pansy lawyer in a suit.
One note on that image, otherwise yep. Great choice I.m thinking. One wonders why he has greyed so much, so fast.
Forest green.
/sigh
JT introduced to the nation a cabinet which "looks like Canada" by unveiling 50/50 cabinet. This in itself is interesting because his caucus doesn't "look like Canada". Out his 184 seats, only 50 of them are held by women (27%). So how can he unveil a cabinet which is 50/50 when his own caucus isn't? Hell 31% of the Liberal party candidates in the election were women. And that was including parachuted candidates and candidates which he selected (or has anyone forgotten that mess).
Breaking down his comment even more. Canada has roughly 35 million people in it. Out that, 25 million identify with Caucasian. Roughly 2/3's. Yet the Liberal cabinet has 30 ministers plus the PM. 23 (76%) of the Cabinet ministers I would consider Caucasian. Not exactly 2/3's. Still under the 50/50 percent gender equality, roughly half of those will be women. Again Caucasian women are not 38% of the population of Canada. Furthermore, to fit this nice 50/50 split in, JT has many cabinet ministers who have zero experience in their portfolios. What does a MP from Toronto who has a medical background know about dealing with the issues surrounding natives and The Indian Act? What does a person with no listed business skill (her background on her website lists her working for non-profit organizations) have running the Ministry of Small Business and Tourism?
Dyth
By all accounts he has seen combat (not a desk officer) and should be a good advocate for our military. Whether or not he is listened to or will stick by the men if Trudeau starts to rip away pieces of the military like past Liberal governments have done in the past is another thing entirely.
Some of these appointees may have a bit of a background, such as defense, but, when it comes to Liberal dogma, the party whip pulls all the peons into line as dictated by the caucus chair, namely, the PM. They better damn well do as they're told,or else.
Could not be any worse than harper did , he spoke and thought for them all , until they had enough and started to bail.
Yes, it is much better to be a drama teacher with a Bachelor of Arts and Education with no history of running anything of importance in charge of a bunch of people who have little background in what they are now in charge of than a person who acts like a boss. I don't know what companies you work at but any of the ones I have, the boss' say is final. He is the one directing the company.
While having actual experience is of course a big plus the new Defense Minister isn't going to command the troops. We have Generals for that. His job is mostly politics and PR media spin. Very expensive portfolio with very political expenditures. In the end the big decisions will be made in the back room not his office. Cancelling the F35 contracts seems too familiar. When Cretien politicized the helicopter purchase he put us 15 yrs behind and $ billions in the hole. Jets have a 30 yr expected shelf life and about a 10yr purchasing process. Not time to start over. And don't ever forget it was a Liberal government that selected them in the first place.
No he won't command the troops but he is responsible for the management of the DND and the direction it takes. He should have a good rapport with the Chief of the Defence Staff and should be able to assess what the military needs and have weight behind his voice when he advocates for it within the government. When JT needs a military response for a threat, Sajjan should be able to actually understand and know what he is talking about rather than simply rely on his staff to do the work for him or you let the chain of command tell the troops about a soldier's death rather than Twitter.
Looks like OSAMA. I don't like it!!
The corruption should start to rear its self sooner over later and like the Senate make the Conservatives look great but the media coverage will be working on their coverup and head in the sand coverage policy. Harper kept his wildly diverse group mostly in line but the usual crowd of idiot sheep you see in the Liberal MP has been replaced by radicals, nuts and fools for lack of a better word. We have Omar Alghabra who fortunately didn't get a cabinet seat (yet) that wanted to have Hamas taken off the terror list, Leslie who didn't get a seat (yet), Bill Blair didn't get one, Lawrence Macauly who got a patronage seat, an old Chretien liberal, that was forced to step down a conflict of interest, after he helped obtain funding for Holland College while his brother, Alex, was president of the institution, ...
Global warming will be a hammer used on Canada, a woman from downtown Toronto in Indian affairs... and then in the shadows with his hand in Justin's back is the architect of Ontario's decline Gerald Butts, his having a say should guarantee a disaster for Canada and freedoms.
The F-35, very unlikely to be kept, used Mig-21's from Cuba are probably on his list.

Stephan Dion has already made comments about Israel... pro-Hamas are going to be so happy!!
http://www.therebel.media/stephane_d..._israel_canada
I think Ezra did a good job on talking about it. http://www.therebel.media/trudeau_s_..._pros_and_cons
Carbon taxes, debt, usual Liberal patronage and green energy.... an inexperienced idiot like Justin and radicals all over.... we will see if they can be worse than the Ontario liberals soon enough I am afraid. Seems like the good old Trudeau and Chretien era of there isn't a dollar we can't spend 10 of and a dictator we can't hug will be back.
Brainwashed? You are judging someone based on looks and not experience. The fact that you would confuse someone who is Sikh with Osama shows your ignorance and your own brain washing. This guy while he might not have the big business or political experience at least he brings boots on the ground experience. I hope he uses his own personal experience to look after the boots on the ground.
I respect your opinion in hunting but not this.
I have my opinion!! Ignorance or not, I still don't like it. and your brainwashed!!!
Well, this could be the first fcku up. President Obama held a presser this PM stating unequivocally, that the Keystone Pipeline was a dead duck because there wasn't any advantage in it for the US. A few minutes later, out comes Stephane Dion to say he "deeply regretted" the US stance. Now,didn't Justin Trudeau state during his campaign that he wasn't interested in pursuing Keystone? On the morning after the election, wasn't it reported that he had spoken with Obama and briefly discussed not going through with the project? As a result, didn't it seem that the Americans were slightly miffed at that statement? Never-the-less,out comes president Obama making his statement to look like it was being canned by the US State Department? Something sure sounds like an early bullshyte storm to me.
Yep, 4 years of tornado scale spin and "experts" telling him what to do..
took me a few minutes to find this old post....
The march of the "experts" will soon begin.

Harper had one year of working for an oil company, then a couple of years working for a right wing think tank before entering politics, yet you seem to that was enough for him to lead the country. He was a professional politician. Except for one year in the oil business, ( surprise, surprise), he has had no 'real' job as you would say.
Dythbringer
Ignore him, he fits the Liberal role model perfectly it seems, but just the same let's look at some facts.
Harper attended Northlea Public School and, later, John G. Althouse Middle School and Richview Collegiate Institute, both in Central Etobicoke. He graduated in 1978, and was a member of Richview Collegiate's team on Reach for the Top, a television quiz show for Canadian high school students.[16] Harper enrolled at the University of Toronto but dropped out after two months.[17] He then moved to Edmonton, Alberta, where he found work in the mail room at Imperial Oil.[17] Later, he advanced to work on the company's computer systems. He took up post-secondary studies again at the University of Calgary, where he completed a bachelor's degree in economics in 1985. He later returned there to earn a master's degree in economics
Stephen Harper
Graduated high school 1978, received degree in economics in 1985.... worked in the mail room, worked in computers, a degree in economics. So much for 1 year of real world business experience.
Wrote a book on hockey where the proceeds go to the Canadian Forces Personnel and Family Support Services

Justin Trudeau
Bachelor of Arts, education and taught drama and a few other subjects for about 2 years.
Made alot money taking $20,000+ speaking fees from charities and school boards WHILE working as an MP making $150,000+, admires dictatorships, used illegal drugs while an MP, has women only events and has been seen with topless teens and scantily clad young women more often than seen with his wife etc..
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...ticle12573370/
Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau is rebuffing a New Brunswick charity’s request that he refund a $20,000 speaking fee after the fundraiser he headlined last year proved to be a “huge disappointment.”
Mr. Trudeau was hired through a speakers’ agency to address a June 27, 2012, fundraiser for the Grace Foundation. An ad for the event cited Mr. Trudeau’s “electric charisma and inspirational message,” and he spoke about youth education. The event was part of a $300,000 fundraising campaign to buy furniture for a home for the elderly in Saint John.
Time will show, just how stupid Justin truly is, but the media will cover up for him and ones like fishermccann will accept and approve what ever he does and says without question, after all if people will support Mao and Castro they will support another Trudeau too sadly! So just ignore him, let him live in his happy delusion, we can live in the real world and watch what a drama teacher with a name will do, no, actually not him, what Gerald Butts, Wynne and anyone else running the puppet will do!
At least that one year gave him experience working in the real world at a real job.
What experience did Truedope get by being a part time "DRAMA " teacher,? he didn't even learn to speak properly in public without interjecting a lot of ahh's and eh's in his sentences, and he even has his "Mommy " speak for him . The guy is truly a "Truedope"
Name one party leader from any party who didn't tell their members what to think, what to say or how to vote. Its absolutely impossible to finger Harper without fingering all the others as well.
The media has spun Trudough as the ultimate bridge builder yet there were legal challenges from some riding associations because he ignored their input and parachuted in candidates. Something he said he wouldn't do. Harper ignored the media because they attacked him non stop regardless of the issue. If you saw the interview Mansbridge did with Trudough you would realize that JT could have beetch slapped him or barfed on his shoes and Mansbridge would have giggled and thanked him. Then again there are 22 vacant Senate seats right?
I heard that the liberals are giving CBC large amounts of funding in the future. Rumoured that's why CBC is so cozy with them!!
Mansbridge called the winners of the election before the west closed voting stations. Should be a crime!! CBC should never be funded by the federal government!! No other channel is.
Well the Liberals said they would restore the funding cuts AND add $150,000,000 so that would be about $1.2 Billion per year by my count.... or $100,000,000 per month, plus advertising revenue, plus coverage fees (fees paid for each subscriber).... no wonder they are acting like a lying and cheap fawning hooker.
http://cbcexposed.blogspot.ca/
or if you put it another way....take a 30 year lifespan of the F-35 (CF-18 age span) and include all costs projected, about $30B ... in that same times span CBC will be $36B + (Olympics bids...)
As mosquito pointed out, Harper has done more than one year for Imperial Oil. He has both a bachelors and masters degree in Economics. Right there alone he trumps Trudeau's BA of English Literature (I suppose Literature is on the one spot where English is better than French) and BA of Education (I am not going to compare the fact both of them started studying subjects in University and then stopped). While Harper had worked in the mail room and on the computer systems at Imperial Oil, Trudeau's employment history has him working as a teacher in BC.
Let's diverge into politics. Harper became the Reform Party's Chief Policy Officer and was instrumental in drafting the 1988 party policy. Trudeau has nothing like this in his political resume. He has never drafted policy until coming into the Liberal leadership position (even then I wonder how much of his party's platform was his idea and how much he relied on others). Harper got the nod to lead the Canadian Alliance after numerous years being involved with politics in Western Canada in 2002 and won himself a seat. Trudeau got the nod to lead his party after 5 years as a back bencher when the Liberals were the third placed party. Harper was the leader of the official opposition from 2004 to 2006 due to the Liberal's minority government. Trudeau has never been the leader of the official opposition.
So yes I do consider when Harper was chosen to the PM's office, he was qualified for the position. He didn't have a famous name to bank on. He had to work to introduce himself to Canadians in order to win the PM's job. Furthermore, he was qualified for the job based on his history (not all of what he has done, I agree with either). Harper beats Trudeau in every aspect by comparing them with the exception of one. Charisma (and maybe hair gel). Harper doesn't come across well and doesn't play well in the media.
I laugh at everyone who says Harper has hurt our image internationally. I guess he has by taking a role in major events or by looking out for Canada's interests first and foremost. I suppose getting called a PILF (Prime minister (or Politician depending on who is saying it) I'd Like to XXXX although maybe in four years it will be Prime minister I'd Like to Forget) the next day by people on social media (despite somehow Liberal supporters are ok with this and not ok with terms like MILF because of the obviously degrading innuendo's associated with the term) is making Canada's image better somehow.
Again at the end of the day, Trudeau has never impressed me. He has been given a pass by a lot of the media (how many third party leaders can you name who have done as many interviews) and he missteps every time. Now he can't afford to misstep. If he is critical of the US by making comments like they "want to whip out" their military, he will be making enemies fairly quickly in the world.
Dyth
This actually has been a dead issue for a long time. Numerous times the State Department (and Congress and Senate) in the US has endorsed this only to have POTUS send it back and have them look at it again. The announcement came now so Obama didn't have to announce it when he was seeking re-election and having Obama "make this decision" doesn't impact Clinton's chances for election as much if she had to make a policy stand on it.
What is really funny is the fact that there already is a pipeline going from the oilsands to the refineries. So the US is already getting our "dirty oil". This plan would have streamlined the pipe and reduced the environmental impact by reducing electrical costs for pumps, etc and have the oil down to the tanks quicker.
That said moving forward, I don't see Trudeau's back up plan being building a pipeline running east to west. I am afraid his energy policy will match Ontario's "green energy".
Dyth
Can we afford this.... the PM is restoring health care and extra funds for all refugee's that are about to arrive. We can't afford health care as it is. Pull out your pocket book!!!
Toronto is already OVER FLOWING with people. They can't even handle the garbage they produce on a daily basis. They send all their garbage to Michigan. When Michigan started talking about banning Toronto's garbage, they stated looking at N. Ontario for its rubbish problem. The infrastructure can't handle the traffic in the city to move 6,ooo,ooo as it is.
When the boat people came over to Canada in the late seventies a few settled here. They took jobs from the local saw mills while young people who were born here were just entering the work force!!
Roads were already here as were the houses. Country was already built. There was a recession at the time and not many jobs here. They were as hard of workers as any other workers in the work force in those days. I worked right beside 2 Vietnamese and they did their job very well!! Now many moved to the cities.
Wow.... Trudeau trading cards.......
http://globalnews.ca/news/2324347/co...trading-cards/
No one else but therebel seems to have any interest other than sucking up and fawning....
http://www.therebel.media/trudeauman..._reliving_1968
What? How did the roads get built?
My family came here in the 1850s but we still came here, we were immigrants, we built the churches, we cleared and farmed the land, we got hassled by people like you for being an immigrant and being from Germany, Poland and Ireland, just because we were different.
Think a little before you attack someone for how they look or where they are from.
The boat people as they were called was before you were born but in the late 1970's. Many refuges came from Vietbam. Many sponsored these families. Actually went pretty smooth but there was a shortage of jobs at the time and many young hard workers, just coming out of school, lost out because of the refugees.
Your talking of a different era Fox!! Big difference from then till now.
I'm all for helping them but in the end settle them back in their own region of the world.
We are a country of immigrants and will continue to be. I have always found it funny when people point a finger at immigrants and lay blame when they are an immigrant themselves. Instead of laying blame spend more time finding a solution to benefit everyone.
Country can't handle an influx of new people right now. No jobs.
Lets get the people a job that's already here. Remember, we just lost thousands of jobs in the west. Who are now on the unemployment role and will be for a long time. Canada is in a recession right now and the Gov. wants more people to add to the unemployed!!!
Harper had the right idea. Help but keep them in Europe.
Liberals are BLEEDING HEARTS!!!
Mine have been in Canada since France cleaned out the prisons in Bordeaux in the mid 1700's and the Irish potato famines on my dad's side so I guess im the descendant of crooks and refugees.
Mine were United Empire Loyalists that came to Canada after the American Revolution, dedicated Orangemen and Freemasons, every one of them LOL.
Mine were farmers immigrated from Holland during the early 1950's. Canadian farmers with dutch roots.
Most immigrants from Asia and Europe never cease to amaze me with their sense of sacrifice, business acumen and tremendous work ethic. Many Canadians would do well to pay attention.
We had a bunch of vendors come over from China to work with us and we had to actually have someone pick them up from the hotel and take them to see the sights of Ottawa or they would have worked all night on the project, they had never been to Canada before but were strictly business. I also know of a guy who went to Japan and was taken everywhere by his business host, by the end of the week the Japanese man had barely left this guys side. He asked the Canadian where he wanted to go for dinner and he said, to your house, the Canadian guy felt that the only way this man would actually leave business and spend time with the family was if he insisted that they have dinner with his family.
Dead on Trimmer, lots of people here can learn from the work ethic of those from overseas, in many cases they could learn from their sense on family and responsibility as well.
The difference between immigrants then and immigrants now is the presence of the welfare state, which we all pay for. With the welfare state it is difficult to differentiate between the givers/workers and the takers/non-workers.
When my grandparents came over you either worked or starved. With the welfare state there isn't a real incentive to become a productive member of society. I am all for a hand up but not a hand out and liberal policies usually lean far towards the never ending hand out.
I don't have a problem with true refugees or immigrants coming here to Canada. I can't blame them for wanting a better life (for example the refugees coming from the middle east have really two choices, flee or die). I think a lot of people get upset at the fact they think refugees/immigrants are given a lot more by the government than it's own people receive and they often times place the blame unfairly on the refugees/immigrants.
I never said it was primarily immigrants. I was just pointing out that this is now available to them. Spend some time in Northern Europe and you will see what I am talking about, immigrants can work the system as good as the locals.
In the past is was the churches and local communities that helped the less fortunate, there were faces and people associated with the help and for most people receiving the help this led to some accountability. When it is the faceless state giving the hand outs it is much easier to take without giving back or feeling a need to change.
It still is in many cases that churches or christian communities still help immigrants or the less fortunate at least the community I have been associated most of my life . I only now of one person that was on welfare, went back to school and later became a director at Hiram Walkers Distillery .
Aside from refugee status, immigration in this country basis itself around employable skills, without skills it is really hard to get in.
I actually find it really hard when I work with someone and find out that they were an Engineer back home but here nothing is recognized and costs too much to be recognized so here they have to sweep the floors to get any money.
We have free loaders in every society, those who use the system will continue to use the system no matter where they end up, I still think that this is the minority in all situations, generally people feel bad being a burden on society.
When my dad immigrated in the 1950's his brother was a tool and die maker at age 16. His certification wasn't recognized in Canada and was told to go back to school. He went back to school and ended up knowing more than the teacher and also taught part of the course. When you immigrate to this country or other countries you have to jump through the necessary hoops in order for your skill or trade to be recognized or accepted. We have standards that have to be met. I don't feel sorry for anyone that comes to this country that ends up pushing a broom and getting paid. Life is what you make of it because the opportunities are endless.
I understand 100% but it really sucks when you put in all the time and get all the experience and they have to do it all over again. I think this is why all the 1st generation immigrant friends that I have are pushed so hard in school, their parents had to start over and for them to just blow off their opportunities would be out of the question.
People I think often miss the point of immigration. We need it. We are an aging population and birthrates are trending down.
Then to, theres this thing called big nanny, social services and pryamid schemes.
If your "against" immigration for immigrations sake, just shooting yourself in the foot.
What really still makes me nuts is people coming from other countries who were professionals in their field, but, can't afford to or can't find the time to go back to university to re-qualify for Canadian admission to their profession because they needed to find a job in a hurry. I once worked with a Policeman who came from Venezuela qualified as a civil engineer, but, when he got here, two months later his job offer disappeared when the company closed. He applied as a Police officer and was accepted by the OPP almost immediately because of his university degrees. Now,figure that one out.
