FEDERAL NDP Platform

I noticed one REALLY good point on the NDP platform (and only the one) which made reference to improving employment through more open access to trades apprenticeships.

This was something that was supposed to have been done by the ON liberals 3-4 years ago... increasing the journeyman:apprentice ratio from the current (in Ontario) 3:1 to a more realistic 2:1 or even 1:1.

As it is, the current ratio is leading to ridiculous increases in tradeswork by making sealed tradespeople in artificially high demand, when there are MANY out there who are seeking positions in various trades industries.

I find it weird though, that the NDP are doing this when they're typically very friendly to unions (of which many trades people are members & we all know how unions love to inflate the value and salaries of their members) AND because i was under the impression that this is only an issue in ON, that the rest of the provinces don't have the same idiotic system in place?

I deal with the trades people on a daily bases and they all cannot find people to fill positions. If they do find people they rarely last more than a year.

Is this not Provincial jurisdiction anyway?

So far,throughout this campaign,the Liberals and the NDP spout off what they want to see done,but,they're very careful not to say how they intend to accomplish their plans because they must know how much it will put off the electorate. This is an ongoing snow job. I just hope the electorate are smart enough not to be fooled by the empty rhetoric.

I wonder if Canadians will blame Mulcair when the "Global" market for crude oil keeps dropping and revenues tank further?

Nope. It'll be the same as the "blame Mike Harris" labor dopes here in Ontario that simply haven't the intelligence to figure it out,90% of whom have great difficulty walking and chewing gum at the same time.

Allowing provinces and municipalities to ban handguns is on the NDP agenda. What's next? A ban on lead fishing tackle might hurt anglers and is not out of the question.

In the ridiculous "debate" last night,it was blatantly clear that NDP "pacifist" policy was on full display. Trudeau tried to backpeddle his support for Bill C-51 after Mulcair called him out,but,you can't unring the bell. By then,The Kid was flailing in the deep end of the pool. Even the decidedly left wing partisan Liberal crowd in attendance laughed and giggled when he tried to conjure up images of "heroism" of his late father's multicultural policies. To their credit,Harper and Mulcair simply ignored him.

I lost all respect for the UN and The Liberal Party of Canada after they hung Gen. DeLaire and our CF observers out to dry in Rwanda. They almost did the same thing with disasterous results during the revolution in East Timor. If we had have listened to those left wing morons,Bosnia would have been a slaughter for our people. Thank God for Gen. MacKenzie and air strikes by the US Navy. I believe our governments "arms length" approach to all things from The UN at this time,is wise and prudent,given that some key positions are being given to the very idealogy that we aare currently fighting in Syria and Iraq. Mulcair needs to think before he runs his stupid mouth.

Not union bashing, but apprentices are now pretty much controlled by the college of trades, formally Ministry of Skills Development, all responsibilities with the college of trades, take a look at who runs the college! All union organizers, soon you will have to be part of a union to be part of a trade. Work as a motor vehicle mechanic, small private shop, still have to pay union dues and follow the terms of the union bosses.
There are those that own the means of production, the capitalists that own the factories, there are those that want to own the labour, the union bosses that want to own the entire labour force. In the past, ownership of a human was called slavery!
