I’m hoping a few of the rural guys on here might have some good advice on a riding lawn mower. I’m looking to pick something up this spring. Any input is appreciated. I’ll mainly be using it for mowing but if I can tow with it, then bonus! A little trailer for light gardening would be awesome.

How many acres are you cutting?
Do want to blow snow with it in the winter?
Are there a lot of trees/obstacles to cut around?
Just under an acre. No need to clean snow with it. The lot is fairly level, not really many obstacles, a few trees but nothing significant.
By the sounds of it you do not need anything higher end than. I would be looking at Deere or Cub Cadet entry level units with a 42 inch deck. As long as you run good fuel and do the regular maintenance either should be more than sufficient. You want to speed things up a bit you could look at a zero-turn but likely not worth it for a lot that size without many obstacles.
If you are handy/mechanical you could but something older that needs a bit of work and save a pile of money.
We bought a Deere S240. Our property is under an acre. No complaints. I havent tried towing my boat to the launch across the street but it probably could. I've loaded a large steel Deere garden trailer with flagstone as well as as much as the trailer could handle with interlock. They do sell snow blower attachment, which I considered given the length of our drive. Anyone I spoke to about that said you really need to weigh the back end down. Dont know about snow and ice but in the spring when the ground is soft, if the incline is too much it will spin and struggle. So just stayed with my snow blower.
All in all, its paid for itself.

Wet ground in the spring. Its perfectly fine if for example at the front where it slopes down to the drainage ditch. No issues cutting across the incline, but there's spots that if I go at it straight on, it doesn't have the weight or torque. later once the ground is drier I can run at from either direction,
A Lowes or Home Depot tractor (Husky or Deere) should be fine for you. A 42" deck recommended as well hydrostatic drive.
I buy used ones off Kijiji for about 300 - 500 and get 3 - 5 years.

I bought a husqvarna in 2008 42inch cut with a 15hp Kawasaki engine, excellent machine. A friend has he same and he is up all winter and blows the snow with it also. Looking at their site the engines are now all north of 20hp,but they do not disappoint.
I use a John Deere X320 48 inch deck it's approx. 12 years old . I also have a little gardening dump trailer I bought used for a 100 bucks off this sites Classified forum . I mow just shy of 3 acres with it every week during the season. Have it into Premier Equipment every year for servicing not to mention the odd greasing or blade sharpening that I do myself mid-summer. I do make sure I clean it after each cutting. I would recommend one of those gel seats from Cdn Tire for your comfort.
If you are using the mower for less than 1 acre, the Big Box Store John Deere 42” would be a good choice. Any bigger lot and you may want the s240 John Deere, which is more expensive, but comes with a better engine and will last a lot longer. Don’t get confused on the John Deere 42” being all the same because they are not.
