I want to hear from those of you following Covid-19 protocols

There are a number of threads where members of the forum are posting information against following Covid-19 protocols or are against any form of Covid-19 vaccinations.
I find it hard to believe that these threads represent the opinions and actions of the majority of forum members.
I want to hear how the rest of you are complying with Covid-19 safety measures.
Those of your who are against following protocols, etc have had your say. This thread is to encourage the rest of the members to speak up.
As many of us are members of the OFAH I have included a link for the most recent OFAH Covid-19 statements and information.

Like many people I know, we are doing our best. We still get groceries, essentials and go for walks. Mask on while indoors, or when social distancing is compromised. We miss our visits with children and grandchildren, other than that, all is good. I respect the opinion and requests from the "infectious disease doctors" and qualified specialists. I don't have the same opinion of the protesters and naysayers who say you can't make me wear a mask and they are useless, but have no intelligence to back it up. So, we are complying with governments request. Maybe it's useless, but we're going with it for now. Stay safe all.

Just because people don't agree with foolishness does not mean they aren't following protocol.

For instance, I don't agree with the masks and truly believe they cause more harm than good, I am also exempt from wearing them. I still wear my mask out in public on the rare occasion I head out to the hardware store or whatever, if only to make others more comfortable even though its only the others that are a possible danger.

I social distance in a big way, aside from my core group that I work and fish with (same guys), I don't go near anyone else. My kid does the remote learning and is unfortunately stuck with dear old dad as a source of entertainment. Little turd absolutely and completely outfished me yesterday by getting the most and the biggest fish.....

8 weeks and counting since I've seen a grocery store.

I keep myself busy, too busy while closing in an old barn and making usable space, finishing the renovations in the house and tugging my line on the ice. Even when I go fishing, I fish lakes that require a special level of stupid to access via ATV and I never see anyone else. I trap my own minnows for bait. I have all that I need.

I am a recluse by nature so this doesn't affect me in a big way but it still chaps my hind quarters to see the downfall of others for no good reason.

We shop big and infrequently. I am not a denier or anti masker. Something is afoot though, these precautions aren't working! Couple this with the U.N. agenda that Trudeau preaches out in the open and I smell a rat.
So much conflicting info, the web gives everyone a voice.
Work has been good, haven't missed a day in the steel business.
Stay informed and aware.

OP, just because people don't agree with the, let's be honest BS, does not mean they don't follow the protocols.

If it makes you feel good about following them, great.
How must people like you feel about the lawmakers making the protocols, only they be lapping it up on a beach down south as we speak. Literally laughing at this all. They've been importing the virus from abroad since the start..lol

I still work and comply where needed, because I don't agree does not mean we need to be silenced...lol

I may not like the rules but I follow them as best as I can or think I should......... I am not too concerned with myself but I am concerned with our youth and their mental health.... I see no real mention of it or plan, it's like they were forgotten.
Teenagers and young adults stuck at home and not being able to socialize must be incredibly hard on them. Coming from a big family, I could see this as not that big of a deal but if you got no brothers or sisters (only kid in the family) being stuck at home must drive them crazy. I never believed one solution for all....

I just came home an hour ago from picking up groceries and scrips in Courtice. Bearing in mind this is Sunday,traffic was like rush hour on Friday. Freshco,No Frills and Shopper's had 20 minute line ups. I was in and out of the Bowmanville Beer Store in 5 minutes. Our area being predominately WASP,all the line ups were solidly visible minorities. Parking lots were full with vehicles from dealers in Toronto,Brampton and even Peel. Yes,we limit our trips,wear face coverings,stay out of crowds,wash our hands religiously,limit neighbor visits to garage beers,only,and haven't seen the grandkids or our senior peeps since before Christmas. Are we seeing a decrease in Covid 19 reports? Not a furkin' chance,in fact,it's going up continually. Lock down my a**. This is Bullshyte.

Had to go tidy up a job the other day and coming home by pembroke the amount of vehicles crossing the bridge in and out of Quebec was more than I have ever seen. Normally it one in 3 vehicles turn, I was in a bunch of thirty or so vehicles and once I passed the Quebec turnoff, I was alone....

What is it that is BS T21?

I think its a no win situation, many people are mad and looking for someone to blame. Personally I blame the virus and am glad I'm not making the decisions because no matter what you decide to do at least half the population will disagree with you and be mad at you. There are just few good options.

Personally I have asthma, and despite leading a fairly healthy lifestyle (regular exercise, have done triathlons for years), I don't want to chance catching this, and since I do try to check in often with my 78yr old mother who lives alone I sure don't want to chance giving it to her. I'm not living in fear at all, but I'm respecting the risk and consequences.

I began taking pecautions before they every recommended them.
Sure the numbers are still going up (many people don't follow precautions), but even doing all they are saying, your at risk going to a grocery store. But hard to avoid that. A contagious disease that spreads between people is going to spread if people keep interacting with other people. None of these precautions is 100% with the exception of 100% Isolation. That's just the reality of it.

Lock downs cause lots of other problems, so I'm not sure which is better, but how high would the numbers be if we didn't do anything. Look at the US, we sure are doing much better than they are, but we have much better compliance with precautions.

Again, a no win situation. We can second guess all we want, but no matter what this virus has a severe downside that are nobody's fault.
Sure have been lots of internet medical professionals come out of the woodwork since this thing started. I'm not one, but will promise you this. Filters work, but only to a point. Everyone wearing face masks is helping to some point. Nobody know to what level. Yes virus particles are very small and can pass by most of the masks people are wearing, but that is not what we are asked to wear them for. We are wearing them as a basic spit trap to catch the spit particles we all spew all day long that contain the virus if your sick.

I don't like wearing them either, but all the crap you read about how they don't work or make stuff worse just isn't right. We can argue about it to the cows come home but in the end if you don't believe filters work, take them off your car and out of your coffee pot and see how you make out. Yes they are far from a 100% solution. Probably more in the <10% range, but still better than nothing. Some people have a ligimate issue wearing them, but its a mental one (not down playing that its a real issue), but there is nothing physically damaging to you from wearing one. At least not in the circumstances we are being asked to.

As many above-the "deniers"?!i also follow all the protocols,if that is the question.

If the idea was to hear from the ones silently do all what is requested,remain very upbeat about it all,and remain silent-well,there seems not to many of them, above in replies.I am really curious how this thred will turn out.

As a matter of fact -the posters highlighted over again the:-lack of common sense,the lack of logic,the lack of fairness and a lack of any ownership in these rules.
The virus is spreadin g(or so they say) and people are getting sick from it (or so they say).

So what is so great about these rules -which suppose to result all the opposite-when they are are not working?

Honestly-there is only one really surprising side effect of them protocols-communications-rules and failures: both big Parties in Canada are handling COVID with same political "success"(or lack of it)

As we are in our 70's and have other health problems, we have been very cautious.
Go out 3 times a week to run the dog in the fields/woods- no one there. We stopped going to Timmy's and McD's afterwards- miss it.
I have been out otherwise , twice since March to go to the vet.
Groceries/drugs are delivered.
My husband is very "social" and has kept up his friendships by zoom . I talk to friend/family on the phone.
Can't turn away the street kids we help, but they need to stand at the far end of the garage while we stand in the kitchen door to the garage. No one gets a ride in the car.

Yes I'll be glad when we can get the vaccine and feel somewhat safer.

And there is a mouth full of the truth. The only issue is that the GOVT is serious, serious about not losing votes from the GTA..... What we have is a guy looking after Ontario that clearly cares about "his" city and that's about the end of it. Don't get me wrong I'm fully aware of the pressure they are getting from the feds but still. Captain Doug is pandering to cities.

Regardless, I'm not one to believe everything is a government conspiracy so I fully agree with ysyg's post way back at #2. If it helps, why not? Maybe what they're trying is right, maybe not. Anybody here have any other solution that's proven? I didn't think so.

Not really a fair question as most of us have jobs and other responsibilities we are committed too already.... Given there resources, the rule makers are to do a better job than the average Joe....They have the time, money and access to all relevant covid info but still getting it wrong....
One thing this average Joe would like to see is................ Report where the Covid cases are coming from....Is it the small businesses, restaurants or oh wait, not them as they have been shutdown already.....
Maybe its the Costco, Walmart or the many essential factories where the covid cases are coming from.......I don`t know but It would be nice instead of me having to guess, they (the rule makers) could report that info to us.

But at what all out cost, especially in Ontario? Personally, I know more who have been put below the grass because of missing out on proper health care than who have perished due to Covid.

Yeah that is truly unfortunate, but I guess the big unknown and fear is how many more cases of that would there be if all the ICU beds were full of covid patients.

I don't claim to have any answers, as I said from the start its truly a no-win situation. Were damned if we do and damned if we don't. The entire situation sucks, but I don't think there is an answer until there is a vaccine that people will actually trust to take.

If our Ontario and/or Federal Govrnment can not learn from them-Houston,we have a problem.

How can you compare New Brunswick to Ontario or even Quebec given the population densities? There is very little spread or infections with Covid in Northern Ontario communities because of lesser number of people interacting with each other. Slowing a pandemic in Toronto as opposed to one in the north is like slowing a cruise ship soon as you would a tinny.

I haven't seen anyone posting who is an out right 'anti-masker' or 'anti-vaxxer'.

I still think the mask have created a bigger problem of spreading the virus than they have of curtailing it. Watching people handle their masks with bare hands, not sanitizing after use and then touching their face etc and scratching their nose etc and handling shopping carts etc..has probably given more people the visus than thru direct contact with infected persons. Dr. Tam knew this was going to be a problem early on but was overridden. People needed a symbol of control and a reminder that the virus was still out there.

Also, I find it astounded how many people are blindly willing to stand in line to take a new vaccine using a technology that is only partially tested. They don't even know if this vaccine will prevent infections from the virus (not protein based) or how long they will be effective.

I will NOT take the mRNA vaccine, there are trials ongoing for at least 3 other vaccines that use the traditional time tested and proven methods for making vaccines (mentioned above) . I will wait till they are rediably available.

Quick Stats: only .03% of the population of Ontario has died and 96.6% were 60+ yrs of age (80% in LTC homes) . This a is NOT a 'black death' type virus. Herd immunity is the end goal and were getting there faster with the spread in cases.

We all try to follow the rules a s much as possible in our family. Not fun but, if you look at other countries with less demanding rules, their infection rates are much higher. Remember that this came from China! Be mad at them, not Doug Ford. Our governments have made lots of mistakes and are still making them, but have not had a lot of practice at controlling pandemics. Cut them a little slack. Make an effort to not buy made in China!

I blame our federal government for allowing international travel to continue from the start with no screening of passengers.
Although our federal government told the country the exact opposite.
Since March last year, this has been going on. Our numbers are increasing, and rightfully so, they should because of this kind of BS.
The latest I heard this morning 19 passengers on a single flight have covid. Funny how fast the UK strain made it here

I blame China and WHO for hiding the truth. I blame our federal government for their actions or lack there of.

What happened in China, or the US or anywhere else. Has little to do with wanting or demanding better from our political leaders and health officials. Or do they get ribbons for showing up too?

There are many aspects or sides to this. And while there may be no clear cut “best” methods. We can identify aspects that make no sense or are unjust.

Ski hills are closed, operators taking huge hits. “Doing their part”...reportedly to reduce accidents on hills and roads. Reduce trips to ERs.But snowmobile trails open. And on, and on.

All we need to do is apply “common sense” . Meaning if something isn’t working try something else, or increase the intensity of some things. In the problem areas.

We have been following advice since March. To the extent that even during Aug, and getting invites from friends to come over. We’d turn down offers from those we felt weren’t taking things seriously enough.

At work, our precautions are outrageous. The extra mile that goes well beyond the regulations. For the record, even though we are considered essential. I can think of a number of things we could have differently. Most “too late now”, but it’s never too late is it?

LTCs account for 80% of all fatalities. Fact is, most that go to LTCs are on borrowed time anyways. When or if you consider life years lost. Basically one 40 year that dies, vs one 86 year old.....

But how hard would it have been to utilize army bases, or other....self contained areas where those that work there, stay there for long periods.....

Utilize RIDE. If Leo can pull people over for that.......with the goal of deterring people. Not arresting people....

Lower the hammer on problem areas. As is, lots are going into the city because their shops are closed, or inconvenienced. Whereas Cistco/Walmart...

“Carbon taxes”
A tool being used to changed behaviour. And yet no one, or just a few are paying prices for this..... passing the buck off onto our grandchildren’s grandchildren. When we could and should be raising $$ for more PPE, Vaccines, less debt, or more help for those being thrown under the bus.

I might come across as such myself, when you have NO IDEA what I want or even if I have some hidden agenda.
One thing I do strongly believe in is my right to have an opinion and to voice that opinion, whether you or others agree with it or not.
You don't have to agree with it, and you can voice your disagreement and I will respect your right to differ even if I do not agree with you.
WE still have to question the decisions being made by those that WE put in power, otherwise this democracy thing we think we have to run our country is not going to work.
No one has all the answers to this pandemic as it is a new world that we are trying to work with.
What would work, and I would guarantee it with my extensive medical and life skills background, is a complete world shutdown for 40 days, no movement for work, food even military or social engagements anywhere at all, but that is not gonna happen is it.
So we will just keep picking away at little zits as they pop up and never completely solve the problem.

As to the original question I wear a mask in public places. I social distance and expect the same from others. If you come too close you will get one polite request to move away. If I have to ask again it will be far less polite.

I can only recall one goof who made a fuss going into a store and was denied entry. IMO, most people are responsible and follow the protocols and the number of anti-masks morons is minuscule.

It has never been more painfully obvious of how successful political lobbyist are in Canada. How can a political leader, provincially or nationally, tell us we need to go into a 2nd lockdown with stay at home orders, close what they deem as non-essential small businesses, and limit outdoor activities by closing boat launches, and ski hills. In the same breath they allow people to line-up outside big box retailers so you can buy anything under their roof (essential and non essential goods), and there is nothing stopping anyone from jumping on a plane and fly across the country, down south for a vacation, or anywhere in the US. In the beginning of this why did it take us so long to stop flights

I am not saying I do not take COVID 19 lightly, but like most things politicians are doing what is easy not what is right or what needs to be done. One year ago why did it take us so long to limit international flights into hot spots and when they did come in we did no screening what so ever - epic failure. I have lost what little faith I had in our leaders as they do not have the health and welfare of Canadians at the forefront. If they did there would be no 1/2 measures.

Some health care workers are working day and night yet haven't been infected . Wonder why that is. But they have worked with sick patients and don't get the virus. Many do yes but many haven't got sick yet from the beginning.


Follow the procedures and the chance of getting infected are slim. Your not supposed to itch your nose when shopping your not supposed to remove your mask your supposed to sanitize before removing your mask.

You can't touch your mask with your hands after you walk into the store. Taking off your mask when leaving the store before you sanitize isn't the protocol.

Remember the purpose of the mask is when you can't distance. When you pass a person stopped in the isle that isn't a problem .

That's the problem with mask's essentially they are a ppe and a person must be trained to use it properly . The inability to use it properly is the problem.

Provide this information to whom? To you? To any person on the street? To any shop owner? Police require court orders to access peoples personal health records, why should some shop owner have the right to know my personal business? Does anyone have access to a persons health data, when a disabled parking permit is in the car window? No, just the Dr. who issued it. Carry a card, issued by a Dr.. No health data reveled. To simple?

I think the days of mask exceptions are over . At the beginning I saw a few elderly people who did not wear a mask .

Now if you don't wear it people just go crazy and are being charged or denied entry .

I think there's a big difference between a bum knee or being an octogenarian than many other issues that make mask wearing not only difficult but painful. You can see someone with a limp and it is what it is, nobody thinks about it any further. Someone with your special card that will cost them $95 can end up constantly embarrassed by it. People will look, wonder and talk about what you may or may not have. Take a small community outlook, say someone with asbestosis shows their card, by the end of the day the community will have them labeled with something that can ruin careers, friendships and sex lives. Like I said "UNCLEAN"

Remember the signs at store entry's...... no shirt, no shoes, no entry. Same deal here.

I have a friend who has a heart condition that allows him a disabled parking, he is accosted sometimes , because he doesn't have a 'limp' or 'visible' condition. When they question his parking location, he just reply's 'heart condition' and keeps walking. He does not have to reply, he just does, because it stops them in their tracks. Sometimes discretion, is the better part of valour.

I feel.as thought we're following the rules for the most part. We don't interact with anyone outside the household other than my father in law. He's alone at his place, and is part of our bubble. I'm trying to just use the old common sense, as I don't want to lose that from lack of use... I went ice fishing Sat, drive 3 hrs north....fished all day....and came straight home. No fill ups, no stops etc..... as long as I can keep doing that, I think I'll be able to ride this out. Gonna head to the cottage this weekend, but again, there'll be no stops, no trips into town etc......if fishing keeps me sane, then that's what I'll keep doing. Just put a down payment on a new FS1700....so I feel I have something to look forward to until the spring...........

The first 4-5 months gave the government all the stats and data they needed to figure out, 1.) who was dying, 2.) who was most at risk, 3.) were the main was.

Every safety measure put in place starting last March was absolutely valid and smart to do. However, we now know that the virus impacts a select group of people with risks. The government should open all businesses and provide extra funding for Hospiutals and Retirement homes.

Locking down the economy is doing more harm. Period.

I can go on for hours on faulty PCR tests, case # V/S sensationalism, actual people in ICU, on Ventilators (false info), 75% of all ICU beds are reserved on daily basis for normal accidents and reserve space capacity. When Ford announced new measures for 26th of Dec including Ottawa we have had 08-13 in ICU with a capacity of 212 in Ottawa. Further to that in March 2020, Ontario was lacking in Ventilators (since resolved and delivered 12,000 more), plus contingency plans further planned another 3000 emergency capacity at temp ICU's for ON. None this has occurred, and even if the worst case happens - Ontario does not have enough Respitory Therapists to monitor and manage current max ICU beds as a result of poor planning for the trade by the government.

Thanks to those of you who actually responded to my request to provide information about how you are dealing with Covid-19. As for the rest of the responses from those of you who hijacked my thread, I am not surprised. Disappointed but not surprised.

Awesome, still have the same view today, still don't (can't wear a face diaper), still fighting with all the Karens and Ken, still challenging By-Law and walk through City Hall as often as I can, still shopping every where (I need to, not willy nilly), still staying 6ft apart, washing hands. Only 1 store I can't into anymore Costco (because membership matters, and it is clearly stated in rules), but I can get my gas there and wife goes in once every 2 weeks.

You seem to be pre-occupied with your fears, and sheep like compliance with an illness that 99.86% of all people recover. So to I am "scumbag", wo requires a note to prove you, so can feel safe. And another point, the EMA is not a law. Even in civil court (by-law infraction) a judge cannot compel you give reason. So judge - you are not entitled to that information.

Actually I think the lockdowns are awesome, I don't have to visit family, I no longer have to choose where to take the family out to dinner as its not needed. I get to stay home and not have to have social gatherings. I get to drink alone, oh what inner peace I have been feeling with these restrictions. No more weddings, funerals or parties. Why would I want to celebrate anything with family and friends when it's no longer needed.
It was becoming very difficult to shop, because of all the choices I had to pick from, Amazon, walmart and Costco have everything I now need to live.
It's really to bad people couldn't get with the times and live a more simple life and stay away from others as much as possible, there is no longer the need to be with family or find new friends and relationships.
This whole new normal is amazing I hope we don't go back to the old way of life as it was to much choice and not enough rules.
I have had the time of my life during lockdowns as I love to be told how to hide out at home, so I can save my money to pay my share of carbon taxes.
They can hold off on the vaccines, I am looking forward to the great reset. It can't come soon enough...:rolleyes::o:o

In the 34-45 age range. Dad died in June suddenly, so only Mom is left. She falls into the high risk category, so I consider anything I do is affecting her. I work from home, order my groceries through the online app or choose to go in for a couple things when it isn't busy. I follow arrows and keep my distance from people in stores. I also don't hesitate to tell people to back the frack up when they blatantly ignore protocols and get too close. I don't have patience for that crap. Haven't seen friends or family in person for months. I live in the country so we naturally are socially distant. Two freezers full of food (thank the labradors for some of that!), so the only thing I go to the store for is milk, bread, or fresh veggies if we need them. I respect science and medicine -- my dad was a first responder, my best friend is a front line worker and a close friend is a surgeon. They tell me what they see and experience regularly. I mask up, isolate, wipe down everything. It may not be convenient, but it sure as heck isn't hard.

I follow most of them, I wear a Mask when I am in a store doesn't bother me at all and I have not had a cold this year at all or even a headache.

I do hang around a few friends but I know where they have been and they know where I have been. One is retired and is home most times or out working on his boat that is stored at a fabrication plant in Kingston plant and he's by himself most of the time and wears a mask if he need to speak to anyone on the shop floor (A friend of his owns the boat company). My best friend who I grew up with well he lives like a hermit and doesn't like many people around if he's shopping and there is a line up he just leaves as he doesn't care to be surrounded by people. I won't see him until spring anyways one other friend does drywall and is not working right now and when he does he works by himself.

So yeah not worried in fact my wife is the weak link as she works in a daycare wears a mask and a shield, she had to go get tested because a kid had a cold..

They barely have any.

They can actually tell us with their successful actions :what to watch and eliminate, to be where they are at.

Few examples of what they think helped them make it thus far:

They do NOT have major international airport-we do have.But if we close them all down,Ontario =NewBrunsvick.
They do have LOTS of rural areas,so the Virus do not spread-so we shall close down the major urban centres,and "save"the rural population.
They do have elderly homes ,a lot-but they do not have casualties-becuase they decided many moons ago-to limit nurse staff to switch between elderly homes,thus not spread the virus-so what can we do?Just copy it.
They do not have major HWYs- the virus does not spread.-so,why we could not limit or stop HWY travel,for a while at least.Or CONTROL it like hell???

You see-it seems we can learn NOTHING from them ,YET -the answers are all there, we just need to see them.

At the end-their deaths rate per million is WORLD CLASS.Why not learn from the best?

Actually I will go one step further I like the barriers of plexi glass. They can stay, people always have colds and hey admit it when people speak you can always see a little bit of spray come out. They have them for security in many gas stations in Toronto so no big deal.

I agree! I think it protects both employees and customers alike.

Personally, I fully embrace the 'six feet back' spacing. People get way too close for my liking. If I can smell you, you're too close.

I am an essential worker, it is amazing the abuse we take from customer's everyday, people just do not get how serious this virus is. Please stay at home, going out for essentials and no one else in your household and maybe just maybe we can get back to a normal life.

I am an essential worker, it is amazing the abuse we take from customer's everyday, people just do not get how serious this virus is. Please stay at home, going out for essentials and no one else in your household and maybe just maybe we can get back to a normal life.

Yup I have to agree with that at the best of times I don't like strangers breathing down my neck.

I like to get in and out of the store as fast as possible regardless and since there is fewer people it makes it easier.

I cut my shopping time by 1/2 an hour.

I suppose " Be careful what you wish for ?" or " If you ask a question ... don't be afraid of the answer ?" may well apply to this post ? The act of "hijacking " someone's post is such a common occurrence on here it's become the norm. I know everyone is entitled to their opinion no matter how wrong they may be. I concur with the thoughts of TooToo and Burlygurl and other likeminded people. Always remember that this pandemic is something that nobody wants or asked for but we are all stuck with it and on a global scale.
