AS loathe as I am to stick my nose in the neighbors business where it clearly doesn't belong, why do you think your federal government hasn't taken a carbon copy of our Firearms Act and applied it to federal law, making it legally binding on every state. It may not be the best system in the world, but,it's a damn sight better than almost everywhere else in the world and I'm sure you'll admit that something....anything....is better than what's clearly not working for America?
Our forefathers saw the need to provide citizens with the means of resisting the government if it should ever go bad - just look at history and see that the biggest enemy of people is their government when it goes bad - our forefathers knew that and so included the right to bear arms in our constitution - most Americans take this right very serious and use all their power to see that it is never taken away - but your right it does make things difficult at times - most Americans think that freedom has a price and are willing to put up with what happens at times -
Between the nut jobs and terrorists running around one needs to be able to defend themselves if something ever happens - it gotten to the point where nobody in a gun free zone is safe - so now individuals are starting to recognize that -
While our system of vetting those who possess a gun ( or wish to buy one) would keep them out of the hands of some nut bars, it has also made it easier for the government to decide that we should only have certain guns and only for hunting or target shooting in certain places. The original FACs would have done what was needed to be done if they were FPCs (firearms possession certificates) instead.
If I had the choice , in our world today, I would rather be the guy that's armed...than the guy that's not.
Do people in the USA really feel they need armed protection like this? Not sure I would want to live in a country where I felt I had to pack a gun all the time. I'm sure there are some high risk situations where it might make sense but do you really need soccer moms packing pistols in Walmart when they shop?
I fully support the idea of citizens being able to defend themselves against a corrupt/non-democratic government that is/or trying to becoming an dictatorship.
But in America, your mass killings are rarely anti-government/terrorist.
Virtually all are dysfunctional/reclusive/mentally ill/weirdos/paranoids/delusionals... whatever, you name it--- they are the suicidal/murderous losers of society.
Another major part of violent crime is committed by descendants of the slaves that your country has still failed to integrate into mainstream society because of pervasive racism.
Another major part of violent crime is committed by everyone in the drug trade. America has the dubious distinction of being one of the biggest consumers of heroin and cocaine in the world. The crime that come with that trade is just a side effect.
The Boston Bombers or Sept 11th types are rare.
Legal concealed carry of guns is not the answer.
Agreed that "feel good" gun free zones a a joke.
As I've said before, America is both great but also a diseased society.
Universal carry of firearms for self defence will not stop terrorist attacks. But it will certainly turn the greatest nation on earth into a nightmarish murderous hell hole.
You need to find a clean/safe way to amend the Second Amendment so that Citizens feel safe with respect to their government but preventing the majority of loser nut jobs from getting their hands on a gun.
DITTO..................
Joe, I hope you know from years of post history I like Johnny above think the US is a great country. Think we CDNS too often look down our noses at it. If I could try to create Utopia or as close to Utopia as the free world might ever see, it would be by taking the best parts of both Canada and the US and doing away with the worst parts of both, the parts that aren't working.
Why did I quote the above? How well did Iraq's army stand up to the US army? IF that day ever comes when you and your neighbours, and your over the top militias do need to take up arms against your govt and army...Lmao. you won't last 21 days no matter how well armed you are it aint nowhere near good enough.
we Canadians might put up a better fight, should "you" ever invade us. We won't last long either, but we will put up a better fight, given "home field advantage" and we do have an army, but thinking we could do anything about it as as delusional as thinking the citizens (those who revolt) of the US would stand any chance of resisting at all.....
Please
And just for some sanity and reality, I dare say we Canadians might have more basis to "worry about that kind of day" than you do. Do you see us shaking in our boots, arming ourselves to the teeth?
