Pleas stop referring to the firearms used in this horrific act as assault rifles. A requirement for assault rifles is to have selective fire. Employing a device or altering the firearm's internal components to alter a semi-automatic firearm's rate of fire doesn't make them assault rifles.Quote:

In Canada you can not defend your home, your Family, or even your person. Some guy attacks you with a knife/bat/lead pipe/weapon of any kind, just punching him in the nose will get you charges and jail time.Quote:

Someone committed an illegal act and may have illegally modified a semi-automatic rifle and people are blaming the piece of metal... I guess that's why England has the "Ban the knife, save a life" protests, ignoring it was a vehicle that killed 8 an injured 40 in June this year... seems like they don't want to put the money into education, accountability and safety which take alot longer to make a real change and are alot harder. The figures (as quoted and linked to earlier) on the number of gang related murders and crimes (missing from the thetrace link above) and seem to dismiss the reality of the violence.
If people are dedicated to murder because of ideology or revenge they will find a way, an example is suicide bombers in 2016 killed 5,650 people... 800 people so dedicated to violence they would kill themselves while killing the people attacked.

Looks like poisoning is more dangerous, vehicles in the US kill about the same as firearms, both will have suicides (not the same %) but looking at just homicides there are about 80% of the murders that are gang related .... and the problem is the firearm??????? The old argument about not needing a semi-automatic to hunt can be taken to the pump (Australia), lever action and down to only allowing single shots...... muzzleloader, bow only .... heck some would be not happy with allowing a bolo and atlatl too.
