Proven, maybe not but what was it Einstein said about insanity?

What is WHO’s position on ‘lockdowns’ as a way of fighting COVID-19?
Large scale physical distancing measures and movement restrictions, often referred to as ‘lockdowns’, can slow COVID‑19 transmission by limiting contact between people.
However, these measures can have a profound negative impact on individuals, communities, and societies by bringing social and economic life to a near stop. Such measures disproportionately affect disadvantaged groups, including people in poverty, migrants, internally displaced people and refugees, who most often live in overcrowded and under resourced settings, and depend on daily labour for subsistence.
WHO recognizes that at certain points, some countries have had no choice but to issue stay-at-home orders and other measures, to buy time.
Governments must make the most of the extra time granted by ‘lockdown’ measures by doing all they can to build their capacities to detect, isolate, test and care for all cases; trace and quarantine all contacts; engage, empower and enable populations to drive the societal response and more.
WHO is hopeful that countries will use targeted interventions where and when needed, based on the local situation.

Alberta numbers spiked early dec. they locked stuff down. Numbers are now going down significantly and they are opening stuff back up.
Seems like it may work
Can’t say I like it or agree with everything but reducing contact between people seems to help reduce cases
Not really a fair question as most of us have jobs and other responsibilities we are committed too already.... Given there resources, the rule makers are to do a better job than the average Joe....They have the time, money and access to all relevant covid info but still getting it wrong....
One thing this average Joe would like to see is................ Report where the Covid cases are coming from....Is it the small businesses, restaurants or oh wait, not them as they have been shutdown already.....
Maybe its the Costco, Walmart or the many essential factories where the covid cases are coming from.......I don`t know but It would be nice instead of me having to guess, they (the rule makers) could report that info to us.
But at what all out cost, especially in Ontario? Personally, I know more who have been put below the grass because of missing out on proper health care than who have perished due to Covid.
My apologies to the OP for dragging this off track, it was not my intention.

Yeah that is truly unfortunate, but I guess the big unknown and fear is how many more cases of that would there be if all the ICU beds were full of covid patients.
I don't claim to have any answers, as I said from the start its truly a no-win situation. Were damned if we do and damned if we don't. The entire situation sucks, but I don't think there is an answer until there is a vaccine that people will actually trust to take.
To your question(and i belive this was already once out in the open here),we need to look no further for the solution, then New Brunswick.
Not to far.......
See-You thought it wrong ;) .Proof is below...........There is a way.
If our Ontario and/or Federal Govrnment can not learn from them-Houston,we have a problem.
How can you compare New Brunswick to Ontario or even Quebec given the population densities? There is very little spread or infections with Covid in Northern Ontario communities because of lesser number of people interacting with each other. Slowing a pandemic in Toronto as opposed to one in the north is like slowing a cruise ship soon as you would a tinny.
Oops! Seems inevitable that this thread will get hijacked and I'm not helping. Sorry.
I don't think that is true...
I haven't seen anyone posting who is an out right 'anti-masker' or 'anti-vaxxer'.
I still think the mask have created a bigger problem of spreading the virus than they have of curtailing it. Watching people handle their masks with bare hands, not sanitizing after use and then touching their face etc and scratching their nose etc and handling shopping carts etc..has probably given more people the visus than thru direct contact with infected persons. Dr. Tam knew this was going to be a problem early on but was overridden. People needed a symbol of control and a reminder that the virus was still out there.
Also, I find it astounded how many people are blindly willing to stand in line to take a new vaccine using a technology that is only partially tested. They don't even know if this vaccine will prevent infections from the virus (not protein based) or how long they will be effective.
The fact a few on here share this concern and post factual discussion on the efficacy and potential problems with the vaccine they are sticking in your arm is not a bad thing. Especially if you truly care about your health. When you stop questioning what is being done to you you become what some called Sheepl.Quote:
mRNA medicines aren't small molecules, like traditional pharmaceuticals. And they aren't traditional biologics (recombinant proteins and monoclonal antibodies) – which were the genesis of the biotech industry.
Personally I wear a mask when I'm in stores (only) because it is now officially a 'social construct'. You get accosted in public if you don't abide by the rules. It's turned people who don't believe in wearing a mask everywhere into social pariah.Quote:
. Sheepl an individual following blindly, ignoring the real consequences of their actions, or beliefs.
I will NOT take the mRNA vaccine, there are trials ongoing for at least 3 other vaccines that use the traditional time tested and proven methods for making vaccines (mentioned above) . I will wait till they are rediably available.Quote:
A social construct is something that exists not in objective reality, but as a result of human interaction. It exists because humans agree that it exists
Quick Stats: only .03% of the population of Ontario has died and 96.6% were 60+ yrs of age (80% in LTC homes) . This a is NOT a 'black death' type virus. Million upon millions have (and will) get sick, get better and build up a natural immunity for the virus long before the Vaccine are administered to the population. Herd immunity is the end goal and were getting there faster with the spread in cases.
AND isn't going away..as with all corona virsus it will continue to raise it's ugly head somewhere in the 4 corners of the earth and spread as people travel. Get used to it, learn to live with it.
