Much of our life/wealth is due to the US..their foreign policy. Further Anyone naïve enough to think it's anyone but the US keeping others at bay or in the North.........

Re WWII. While it's true the US "saved" the world. It wasn't your military power Joe. Virtually all historians (outside Hollywood) agree, 1) your equipment was poor and not up to snuff 2) Most of your generals about the same. The difference was your industrial might, and ability to mass produce, cheap but lots of it. Kinda like China today
Further, you sat on the sidelines for years. Let the commonwealth take it on the chin for years. In short you let the heavy weights beat the snot out of each other (see why your industrial might turned it around). Had you gone toe to toe with the Nazis for years while the commonwealth sat on the sidelines...You'd a been in dire straights to....

We sure are smug for a country that owes a lot to the US. Incuding much of our present wealth/way of life. In some ways we like the US back in WWII like to sit on the sidelines, reap all the benefits of US foreign policy...........and when it suits us, look down our noses.

Werner, the US has been able historically to grow its own food, sure. Their exports outpace their imports, but to be fair, the make up of those exports, vs. what they are importing is important. Export of raw goods, import of finished and processed goods. It doesn't necessarily mean they're "self reliant".Quote:
