Peace in education

There are a number of things Fatri that need to be fixed addressed.
Lay off Nurses (despite the obvious need for more) so that teachers don’t….
Sell crown assets to pay for infrastructure so that private and the economy and everyone benefits …so that god forbid PS not feel it
Raise taxes through the roof, putting extra burdens on Seniors with fixed incomes, families who only earn 75k and don’t have pensions, people who have lost jobs, or accepted lower paying ones to pay bills...so that god forbid….
Raise even more taxes on the “rich”

yeah, no argument there’s far more than just “teachers” to it, a lot more.
And more importantly why “exactly” are they striking, given?

And heres the kicker.
many people from me, Trimmer, Terry, Werner, more in the media, Drummond, Moodys
were “yelling” alarm bells 6-8 years ago. Labelled “teacher haters”, warned it would only get worse. Ask me at this point….

Think about the tens, hundreds of thousands who have lost jobs, unemployment is still high, Hydro, taxes, more. How many years till that 48-52 year old PS with pretty good security retires for the next 26 years?

It's not the teachers that are the problem. They are just the ones betchen the loudest right now. Two weeks ago I chopped my hand up for 26 stitches In a freak accident but where was I 2 days later, back to work trying to keep my bills paid. I don't have a choice I work to pay for the public service that keeps on telling us they don't have enough. Well I, like a lot of the population have had enough, our wages are not going up like the cost of everything else is when things are tight our only choice is to work more hours or change fields to a job that pays more. If teachers or ps don't like there job then quit. No one is holding a gun to there head find greener pasture somewhere else (ya right) cause if one quits there will be another one willing to do it for less. That is what the private sector has known for years. The unions need to shut their pie holes and go back to work.

No teacher calls the shots. And they like students are caught in the crossfire

to a to a point Jben, they can't have it both ways, the union was voted for by them, then union is largely made up of them, as a group every teacher I know vote liberal, along with all ps workers I'm friends with. And to be honest I bite my lip and stay away from politics when around them for the sake of our friendship. I get the Facebook posts of them whining for there cause every day, same as during elections propping liberals and I can't lump them together???? They stick together when times are good, they can be lumped together when times are bad. I have not seem one post on public media saying " we have enough"

Here on the board there are teachers, only a couple I know of that speak out against the Liberals, or what’s been going on for the past 10 years. Most certainly didn’t mind when times were good and the liberals were bloating PS (prior to 2010). Back in the day, Werner, myself, couple others would “debate” the growing gap. Despite a fair bit of evidence that shows people in PS earn quite a bit more, have benefits and pensions…Branded us “teacher or PS haters”. Would discuss/debate the growth in PS (by numbers of people) and just how insanely large it grew…If I recall from those debate there were studies that showed insane growth ( 40% public vs 11% private). Even today theres still the odd report that shows….

Then there was Drummond in 2010/2011
AG reports
Moodys
and on and on and on.

Some still do labels us, more than a few times Ive been branded with Pension envy and more.

So I guess some employ Union tactics (bully, scare) they way they did Tim hudak and anyone else who dares to say “boo”, not unlike Ms Wynne herself her brands any parent (and there a lots) against or questioning the sex ed change, homophobes.

That said, this is really about the state of the province, how things are really affecting real people, mismanagement. As Oddmott said a couple pages ago “Not looking to make social reforms, but effective management"

So few get hurt, and most benefit rather than the select few ( Unions and the GTA) which is this parties sole focus so they win and win.

Well now its coming home to roost as foretold.

Would you “blame” the OPP for the 8.5% raise which was grossly insane? Especially given they got 5% just a few years ago. So really its 13.5% during times when many are lucky to get raises period, and those that do, are seeing 1.5%

That raise is having real implications on municipalities, who are being forced to jack land taxes to pay for it.In short, people in areas hit hard by job losses, small towns etc and are being pummeled by Hydro and that. What about retired seniors in small communities now paying for the OPP (who themselves have things extremely good relative to)….
See many OPP volunteering to give it back?
See many of them saying it was wrong?
Do you blame “them”. Or the Liberals and Puppet Masters.

Now the strike is a little different because its directly impacting parent and students. For students at a critical time of the year. What the heck…ffs, they will be at their cottages in 6-7 weeks enjoying summer. WTF is the point of a strike now.

blast them imo, its selfish and more. And if they don’t like the animosity, suck it up. “You" created it, especially given the hornets nest you knew would be there and was a given, given “reality” these days.

I live in a small northern town my income properties are in small towns, they are my pension plan, paying for the ps is starting to pull more and more from my planned pension to cover the hydro increases education increases the cost of policing. Unlike them I can't jack my rent to cover the increases. If I could the people living in them would not be able to afford. Where does it stop. I have eaten increases for four years. But enough is enough it needs to stop across the ps board not just teachers, but as stated they are the ones back at the trough at the moment.

The Liberals have setup the policing legislation where more and more regions/towns can't afford to float their own forces anymore. They have no choice but to use the OPP infrastructure. So, not only did she give them ridiculous raises but has changed the game to make sure they increase head count. Once hooked they have no choice but to pay the high wages and raise municipal taxes. The towns take the heat and the Libranos get another pass.

Very true - set the bar high for policing standards and that the local police forces can't meet. They get shut down and the OPP takes over. It's nothing short of mafia turf building for protection money. Same friggin thing as what you see on shows like HBO's Sopranos. Only its being run by LPO and the OPP. At least Tony had some concept of peoples ability to pay, which is missing in Ontario.

Why the heck does Admaston Bromley (Cobden/Douglas) need OPP officers trained to the same standard as southern Ontario. The major crime centre is Opeongo High school. Not that there is a problem there - just that there are no problems anywhere else in the municipality. I don't think Cobden has any bars even. Douglas has a hotel, but I think its only open St. Patrick's week.

And North Algona - Wilberforce 100% rural. Two small villages - Golden Lake and Rankin. The worst the cops around here have to worry about is some farmers kid growing a bit of pot in the back 40. Why do we need such a high level of police training?

And related to that, they are doing the same thing to volunteer fire departments. 10 years from now they will be gone because it will require full time staff to keep all their training certs up to date.

The cost is out of control. Crime rates in Canada have been decreasing for the last 30 years and are now almost at the level they were at in the 1950s. The inflation adjusted cost of policing per capita in Canada however is higher than it has ever been. The figure below was taken from a report based on this topic. Welcome to the nanny/police state that is Canada.

Actually looking at the graph the adjusted cost is pretty constant until after 9/11. My guess is that fear mongering is what is driving this phenomena.

Species no idea what it was really like pre 9/11 but just think about all the measures post.

But like the “teachers”, or others…It just indicates (to me anyways) how big and how many problems there are. Do the things that Werner brought up make sense….and sooooooo many more. Yeah “teachers” may be a small part of it. Doesn’t mean it should be ignored, or a kingdom defended at all cost.

The writing has been on the wall for years. Both the problems, the corruption, and the scope/magnitude. Some used to say here (Trimmer being one)….If you thought Mike Harris was bad, just wait, it’s only going to get worse.

And so it begins.
