One night when I got out of class I walked to where I had my car parked (a 1948 Plymouth sedan) - I had a flat tire - the one thing I noticed right away was that after about 10 minutes the streets were empty and it was dark - across the street was a door way to a building and 2 two black guys were standing there - as I started to get my spare out of the trunk they came over and asked me if I needed any help - I told them no thanks - then they asked me if I any money - they said that they just came from the South and were broke - I told them I had things pretty rough myself - look at the car I'm driving - then I heard them talk about taking me - as they approached me I pulled out my gun - aimed it at them and told them to beat it - which they did - very quickly -
Now if I didn't have that gun God only knows what could have happened to me on the dark street in the middle of Newark with nobody around - I had a tire iron in my hand but who knows - I had one other occasion where a gun came in handy - what these incidents taught me was that a person better be able to protect themselves when they need to go into some places - maybe this is why I feel a lot safer when I have a firearm with me - I always have one in the car - sometimes I carry it - and I'll tell you something - that was years ago but things have not gotten any better when it comes to the amount of crime around - I grew up with guns - started hunting at a early age and spent a couple years in Korea - guns can be a guys best friend -
