CFL and OHL RIP?

The CFL season was cancelled yesterday after Trudeau turned down a $30 million load request.

The CFL survives on getting fans in seats. Live sporting events with fans aren't likely without a vaccine and there's not much chance one will be ready and in the arms of enough people for the 2021 season.

The OHL has the same problem and while they have some half-baked return to play program for December it depends on having some attendance at the games which seems unlikely.

Do you think they will survive or not?

They leagues will survive. Individual teams is a different matter depending on how "flush" team ownership is. Oshawa Generals are already threatening to move their team if financial considerations aren't forthcoming from The City of Oshawa. It seems they've taken their negotiating lessons from Unifor. We all know how that worked out,don't we?

I always liked the CFL and watch those games before I'll watch the NHL. Same old 6 teams, unlike the NHL.

The CFL might end up folding or at least morphing into something else in the future, but the OHL will always be a force as far as I can see. They need leagues like this as training grounds for the stars of tomorrow to hone their skills. Major league sports such as the NHL and MLB will always be around, and they need new blood from somewhere.

This hurts the CFL more as the majority of their profits are driven at the gate. Think the OHL operates with a lot less expenses but not sure. They have some sort of scholarship fund payment program for the players and would assume less overhead then the CFL.

Well the CHL does not really pay their players, so there is that.
