Own a Silverado? YouTube is a best friend

My old '08 Silverado is starting to feel her age and bits and pieces are falling apart. I just replaced the entire front end. Then I needed the ignition cylinder replaced and re-programmed. Next the power windows needed fixing so I said enough is enough! I hit the old you tube, found out how to repair them and did the job in my driveway in 15 minutes at zero cost.
Now my fuel gauge/sending unit is toast and repairing that can be close to a grand at the dealership. So its back to you tube for a cheaper fix. As suggested I'll cut an access panel in the box above the pump, remove and replace it with OE at a miniscule fraction of the price. Put the bed liner back in and Bob's yer uncle!

I think that before repairing anything else, even around the house I'll be a tuber and check out that place first.

I have used YouTube a few times around my place, repaired a washer and dryer....Made my shed and deck using that sucker too... It is a great learning tool for sure.

Hahahaha, if it ain't on you tube, it's never happened. Between you tube and google you could probably make it to the moon and back. They give you some mechanical tricks that aren't even in the manuals.

You mentioned repairs at the dealer. Just for anybody who isn't aware,once your vehicle is off warranty,never,I repeat,NEVER,take it back there. The hourly labor costs and the mark up on parts is highway robbery not to mention the self-serving bullshytery the love to pass out. It's important to find an independent mechanic with an excellent local reputation. Get to know him/her and once you develop a trusting relationship,stick with it.

There's a saying that's out there, "google is your friend". There is so much info out there, on pretty well any subject you can dream of. Like you Sawbill, I have used Youtube also to learn a few repair tips.

My old Dodge diesel had horrible shifting issues. Hopping from gear to gear constantly. A Google search led me to wrapping tin foil around a specific wire which stopped the stray voltage that was messing with the TPS and causing the erratic shifting. I was quite pleased with the cost of that repair. ;)

You tube has saved my quite a few bucks over the years.

My 07 Silverado is starting to have tranny issues. Shifts into 2nd at about 3 grand or higher, not a hard shift, but every other gear shifts at 2200 or so.

I'm not even sure it's going into 2nd or going straight to 3rd because sometimes it's gutless after it shifts.

270k on truck, might be time for a new one
