CRA employees fired for taking Corvid benefits, WHILE WORKING?

So here is a little story WE ALL should be concerned with, it was on AM 649 Radio yesterday but as you can see its a week old story.

So these employees from CRA as I understand were working from home and they decided en masse to scam the system and all involved decided to get their wages and also claim benefits.

While the story is being aired a COLLECTIONS CRA guy call's in and gives an alias as Jonathan. He was pretty proud to declare that their UNION did held help them in relation to vaccine mandates, they had to work from home as a result and decided they also were entitled to the Covid payments.

Now he stated that they had a FACEBOOK group who openly did this and many collected tens of thousands of dollars and blamed it all on the Canadian public voting in a party that made it so easy to do.

The reaction from other callers was swift, find these people, fire them and GET OUR MONEY back.

Problem seems to be that the CRA does not believe its worth the EFFORT to recuperate millions or maybe billions of stolen taxpayers money.

The payments were made without a tracking SIN being required.

I am calling CRA yesterday to voluntary ask how to declare and file an overseas pension and the same CRA folks are ripping us all off. Rant for the day over.

I was laid off on EI before the CERB crap started, then my EI got switched over automatically to CERB, which I did not want or ask for. Fast forward to the last few months and the CRA has harassed me with letters and phone calls, even opened a portal in my online bank account for me to pay back $1000 which I knew I was going to, but was waiting to file my income tax return first. I did finally just transfer the money to them, as I was sick of the calls from them. Kinda funny talking with them though, had 1 guy named Issac from I think he said Regina with aa accent such as you would hear from many off-shore call centres. He would ask for my SIN number, which I told him I would not give over the phone. Then he would ask for my client#, which is just a SIN# with extra digits. This went back and forth for a few minutes. When I asked him if he was on an unsecured cell phone at home, he would not answer, just cricket sounds. I told him if he gave me his SIN# I would give him mine, nothing but crickets again. It was kinda fun to talk in circles with him, but he finally got frustrated and hung up.
I'm starting to feel like I might have been a little premature paying the CRA $1000, as it looks like they are not going to chase any more people down and I got suckered out of a grand.
I can see this causing problems down the road for honest people when it comes to taxes paid on income earned and then not getting it back with repayments as well as other "new" rules to help out the bigger players. And now those in charge who were supposed to "help" are too busy gaming the system for their own financial gain.
Have not heard anything else about the tens of millions $$$that was scammed from the if I remember correctly Ontario provincial funding by a family (Singh and Madan) that was in charge of software for the government assistance programs, but why would we as they are not bit players with no funds to fight back.

A good START

They should never be allowed to work for a government organization ever again Federal, Provincial, Municipal, etc and should be audited for life.

I would be a lot tougher on these folks as they were so blatant, as the Minister in charge alluded to, it was a fundamental breach of trust.

So that would be criminal charge #1 and the second one would be Fraud, no questions asked.

Would their previous Union come to their rescue and give them a lawyer, pretty unlikely.

Now to add injury to insult if I was a betting man, I will bet that some of these folks are right now using the Union to get a severance package?

If they were cheeky enough to pull this off in the first place you probably will be granted severance by this government just to avoid any legal problems. I am not saying they have any right to severance as they were fired "for cause" by some will try and might succeed.

What's the point in paying union dues, if you can't count on your "brothers and sisters"?

Further proving how outdated, and useless Unions are.

I too received the "you need to pay back CERB benefits" letter.

I have paid in to E.I for 40 + years and this was the first time I collected benefits.

I didn't pay it back but in the end they will just take it from my income tax return.... :(

Unfortunately even in this day and age, folks "in power" take it upon themselves to give themselves large salaries and have bloated bureaucracies buy feel its OK to shaft Nurses, PS Workers, and try and bully teachers. GM,FORD, had years where workers had to strike to get fair wages.

So as we can see even from Mr Ford the Unions are still needed and definitely not useless.
