'NO' vote by the Conservative delegates may have cost O'toole the next Election

Pains me to say it, but the Conservatives may have just sunk their chance for a Win in the the next election.

The Climate Change movement, however misguided, is a very large block of voters in key ridings. The Liberals will play this up and make it very difficult for the Conservatives to gain any new ground.

The fact is though, if you read the reason they did not Vote to enshrine the words"we recognize that climate change is real" they are not wrong. It's unfortunately is purely an issue of optics.

Not good.
It’s a small thing a long the lines of voting to say China is engaging in genocide. Just words and optics.

However voters in key swing ridings won’t see it that way. And have double standards.

Definitely a topic where they could afford to pay lip service, play the game, lie through their teeth, blow a ton of hot stinking methane gas, and promise one thing, then do nothing.

My spidey sense has kicked into overdrive. I know that Pierre chose not to run for the Cons leadership due to "family reasons" but maybe he was waiting for an opportune time. Change is in the air? (not climate).
The support he is getting from the population in general is simply overwhelming. He has all the optics in his favour.
It would not take very long for him to take control as a leader and become our next PM.

Impact, I agree. If Pierre was leading the party, he'd win by a landslide.

And why O'toole removed him from a portfolio where he had access to the masses on TV every day.

Doesn't appear to have slowed Pierre down too much..he knows how to use social media and has a huge following that O'Toole doesn't have.

If PP were the leader.

How would he have handled Sloan and the RTL and So Cons. Would this vote have gone any differently?

PP is in favour of fast tracking infrastructure, expansion of our Energy sector, and unleashing manufacturing etc.

O’Tool is trying to walk the line to peel votes away from the liberals. He’s speech was a solid attempt at that. His attempts to soften the language, dial back the Sloan/Gallant rhetoric and win the ridings needed to carry the conservatives to victory just got slapped down. I’d agree with Mike and the OP. The membership just lost it for him. If PP take a shot at the leadership after O’Tool, it will be same. Until the conservatives can appeal to the voters in the ridings needed to win, it’s going to be status quo. The party has the chance, but if they don’t give the leader the tools he needs, how can you expect a different outcome?

It’s good that the party does not want to emulate the liberal hypocrisy, but at what cost ?? Time will tell.

In doing so he's trying to make the Conservatives more palatable to the fence sitters....unfortunately until the Liberals are basically thrown out of office...he will never win support of the environmentalists.

He'd be better off going after their Leadership. Push hard till the Village Idiot becomes unpalatable to the Liberal Party faithfull.

Well if he isn't unpalatable after the ethics violations, waste of taxpayer money, interfering with RCMP and ethics investigations, lies about ethics, Jody W.R., SNC, WE, firearms etc. etc., his treatment of vets and women....

Now as for the climate change, the proposal is an ideologues statement and ignores the real world and needs of the people and the environment itself. We had snow in the southern US, a warm spring here (so far) and if you can read a basic graph of climate, duh it does change but that's not what the proposal would mean! It looks like a red fake Conservative and another Quebecer attack on oil... guess they like that Saudi stuff better or are like this guy...

Anyway, there are those that talk about doing something about environmental damage (left and greens) and those that have the integrity and are actually willing to work or do something (usually NOT the left). We have snow in Alabama, the skies seem bluer.... could it be air traffic reductions? Should be interesting to see what 2020/21 shows if there is a study regarding that data.

Making huge all encompassing statements but doing nothing but virtue signalling... that's the Liberal way! We should have Energy East instead of sending money over seas but Quebec was the issue and the PM and his minions took up making the barrier impassible so it seems voting against that farce proposal was the best thing! Those that think we should be accountable, energy independent and encourage Canadian economic concerns should be able to see the reality, and those that don't probably had their heads up their .... looking for an excuse to continue the corruption anyway.

Putting that in and the accountability part is just a way of making the Conservatives more green and like gangrene those policies are not beneficial at all. Canada needs a healthy future and that includes environment, economy, health and a change in government from the current failures!
